I have a Ruger Super Redhawk Toklat. It came with the worst excuse for a red ramp front sight I have ever seen.
I called Ruger and they sent me the brass bead front sight at no charge, I found it to be no better, for my eyes anyway. Another call to Ruger and I had the green fiber optic front sight. Love it, but I read somewhere that the fiber optic sights are not meant for longer range shooting, mostly a short range proposition. Long and short range is subjective based on each person. What is the thought on fiber optic sights?

sights are a personal thing. The gold bead with the V rear

to me in probably the best "long range" sight set up there is. And by long range I mean out to 75 or 80 yards. No hassle trying to make sure the front blade is centered in the rear notch. Just drop the gold bead down in the V and you got it. The fiber optic blades are, to me at least, for those dark cloudy days in heavy cover. Even with limited light they still glow. But being a bigger bead they are not as precise as the gold bead.

I like green and yellow fiber. Red ramps are the

worst for my eyes. Plain black patridge seems to be the best for me for long range, followed by a black ramp. If you like the green fiber optic I'd just stick with it for a while...

I like the green but have red ones also.

Yes the peep works out great for me. That DW shoots 2" groups at 100 paces with the 8" barrel.

Actually I had the same issues and solved

It by painting the bead with white fluorescent paint! My next experiment with my fiber optic sights is going to be to remove the fo rod and find a brass machine screw with the same diameter and insert it with the head to th he rear and paint the head fluorescent white or yellow

So you're front sigh is going to be a screw?
