he bought 10 Remington's from James E. Serven for about $10 each. In the 1940's the Remingtons were not worth much unless they were pretty close to perfect.
Some had cracked cylinders and Dad rebarreled and made chamber inserts so .22 rimfires could be fired in them.
He rebuild one or two to .357 Magnum.
His conversions sold pretty well back in the day.
