GNR cartridge did I recommend for the big bears in Alaska and also for bull elk in Colorado. So there is your 2 part question..GNR caliber for big bears and GNR caliber for bull elk.

My choices 366 GNR , 378 GNR , bullet selection is good and

I shot it with a 375 H&H at 40 feet. I was a little unnerved when I saw my guide visibly shaking.

I think I would have done very poorly with a handgun. The phrase " Use enough gun " comes to mind. This was in 1990, younger eyes and body.

366GNR and 476GNR

that is one and one-half leaps! You'd have maybe a full second to do whatever it is you were going to do. George was very serious when he said you only get one good shot.

I remember he recounted a story about his fried, a guide, who went in the brush after a wounded bruin. He got a shot off and killed the bear with his .375 H&H but while the bear was dying it swatted him and broke his neck killing him too. George simply said "It happens", and "he was a good guy".

I much prefer he "IS" a good guy.

I shot a Whitetail, Sika, and Stag with .378 GNR

grain accubonds. Bear gets up close and personal real quick. You can't have too much gun where they are concerned.
