Have you seen the CCI line of "powder coated" .22 LR?

That fixes a huge issue with .22 LR. No gooey lube to get hot and sticky and it should shoot super clean. I hope it catches on industry wide. Just because they have done something for 140 years a certain way does not make it the best. It might even make that tin crap for CA shoot right.
It's polymer coated, like our powder coated cast bullets.

I liked his controlled testing approach.

The accuracy testing of rim fire ammo must make folks crazy though. Variations in lot to lot and gun to gun. Drawing any useful conclusions are a hit and miss, no pun.
I had a friend weighing cartridges to the 1/10,000 of a gram, mic’d rim thickness to 0.001”. Then one bobble or twitch, puff of wind, anything and the effort is lost. It’s fun to him, not to me.
If you’ve ever scrapped slivers of lead from an old .22 or dulled a good pocket knife cleaning out a suppressor you can understand how it might be time for industry to try a littler harder as standard for the grand old .22 LR for the masses. I hope this catches on. The entire industry will benefit I’m sure.
Did CCI give you some consulting fees Scotty?

Way back S&W contracted ammo in their name

It was called Nycad ammo. Being encapsulated lead it initially was to reduce airborne lead at police ranges. The HP version worked fantastic in .38 Snubbies. It was basically a soft lead bullet that had been powder/poly coated. Just like the current rage. That was the late 1970’s!
It was pretty quiet till tinkers got interest going and Federal (S&W original ammo contractors???) were first I saw.
Why they don’t just stick to gray or black I’ll wonder. Guys just don’t like playing with red bullets.
Round Nose 44 spl definitely has a lipstick tube look

lube smells better than burning paint. I do like coated 45 acp swc's tho. Slow enough the paint doesn't burn.
I’m shooting painted cast .257?@ 2600 fps.

All I smell is traces of burnt nitro cellulose. In a handgun (.45 Super/Rowland) I got 1500 fps from 200 gr. SWC plain base, gas checked, red Harbor-freight, bullets. I was preoccupied with hanging onto the rubbery, flexing, G21 and didn’t think to sniff. Lol
It may have something to do with burn rates of propellant. I’m using Lil’Gun and Longshot respectively.

Didn’t intend a question mark. It’s a .25-35 Win.

Bullets are 80 gr. LEE tumble lube style FNGC painted with the Harbor-freight red poly and sized .258”. Surprisingly Lil’gun is a fantastic propellant as is AA1680, although it’s somewhat slower.
Lol my nose is probably just sensitive. Just
