Blake and Kase know a lot about those on the 1911

The skinny is the recoil spring "system", along with custom barrel throating, and a chambered recoil reducing brake. Blake uses a special designed system that uses multiple progressive tuned springs. I can attest that it is one smooth shooting rig.
The heavy recoil spring really hammers your slide "notch" on the last round. Old military slides in particular. It can peen them pretty badly. I also found that the firing pin stop plate was originally designed as a square bottomed piece by John Browning and the military in WWI altered it to a beveled part so the GI's could rack the slide easier from hammer down. A square one slows the slide in recoil and racks the frame up less. I installed one on my 10mm and went back to a 18-19 lb. spring. I could not rack a round it was so stiff for me, even with the hammer already cocked. Arthritis and old age.
I've shot hot 10mm almost up to hot .45 Super specs. It's rough on a gun even set up for it. But it's for protection or hunting and in moderation it is fine. Increased maintenance compared to the low pressure rounds originally intended.
Thanks WB, was thinking of running the super

Sparingly in my Ruger American or Glock. Would like to find a good deal on a 1911, just a working piece not a BBq gun lol.

...years ago Wheb I had my Springfield 1911 long slide set up for the 45 super the gunsmith changed the firing pin spring And the recoil spring to stiffer springs
If you want a hot 1911, re-consider the 10mm

It's hot. If you load your own the original 200 gr. loading is easy to mimic. Cast gas check adds some speed at same pressures. In the 1911 bullet ojive shape can be a headache. I have a Glock set up for it and it will eat anything while the 1911 bobbles.
You can get a G21 Glock in .45 and with a simple barrel change and mag it becomes a 10mm. (You cannot reverse the idea on the G20) I even converted mine to shoot 9mm Luger! It's not everyone's cup of tea but an amazing platform.
Or get a good Ruger Single Action Revolver ..

have it built in a hot caliber if you want. Semi-auto's are just a fad and won't be around too long.

get a 40 super. 1400 fps with a 200gr bullet. For the gun to live and function correctly, you need to have somebody build a gun specifically for 40 super.
There is more to it than changing some springs

To start with there is the original 45 Super and there is the modern 45 Super witch is a +P+ load! You could change the recoil spring and the firing pin spring and it would shoot 45 Super +P+ for a while but not reliable. The recoil would get the best of your wrist and it will fail to cycle. And you will beat the gun to death. At original 45 Super performance levels you will be good to go with a spring kit, Using listed data from Hobgdon website. For a full house 45 Super I would suggest the gun be a longslide or a government with a compensator. Have the chamber maxi throated and a Sprinco Recoil Management Guide Rod system fitted, tuned to the power factor of the loads you will be shooting. Starline has 45 Super brass. If you want a state of the art 45 Super you Need on of Gary’s Longslides. One of my bucket list must have guns!
Other than Gary's Longslides...

Being great, there's not one piece of factual information in all that. Wow.
Anyone looking at a great caliber like 45 Super, please look to the informed for help.

... purportedly can handle +P and .45 Super with no conversion necessary according to info you amass thru your own research...
I have one of those, the Tactical USP

It's a BIG gun. It's still a plastic chassis though. I personally see my G21 as more robust as to taking a pounding. I am running a 26# spring under a custom Wolf barrel that has an extended throating. The bullet moves maybe 1/3" before hiting the rifling and beginning to build pressure. An old Roy Weatherby trick. I also have a Tri-port compensated brake on it. I've shot the 230 gr. at 1300 fps easily, I actually hit 1400 but backed off some. The barrel is 5.5".
I did some trigger work on it playing with less expensive alternatives to fancy drop in units. The gun shoots like a custom 1911 if you can hold it and work the trigger system. It puts a 1911 to shame as a simplistic machine but is very toolish.
The HK is too much ($1000) to screw with too a lot and the aftermarket is pretty thin. Most .45's can shoot limited +P and not be hurt much. The plastic frames flex and absorb lots of the beating, the whole thing is a buffer! Bad thing about HK is every 5 yrs. or so they come out with a new version and your old one is obsolete, and the $50 mags.
This is mainly for size reference. Right now the Glock has the stock 4-3/4" ACP barrel, the 1911 is actually a 10mm Javelina. I have barrels for the Glock to make it shoot 9mm, .40 S&W, 10mm, and .45 Super/Rowland besides the ACP.
