Knives of Alaska, made in Texas. Somewhat misleading maybe, that being said does anyone have one of their knives? I'm considering one of their combo sets but have heard they may be extremely hard to sharpen.
I have one, a small trout and bird type. It’s nice but

I haven’t felt the need to use it at all. I generally use a buck 110 or a personal or pathfinder Skinning I do with a havalon. I leave my randals and other customs home.

For a mass produced factory knife Buck is hard to beat. I have more than a guy needs and all were bought long before they went offshore for production.
Most Buck's are back "onshore" now. I haven't bought

I bought an elk engraved one from Gary and it's the sharpest knife I've ever owned. Pretty, too.
I just have so many that I just use them. When I started

hunting and was a kid, I did the three year Randall knife thing. Sent them $10 and three years later I got the knife. Then an uncle gave me a 1960s buck 110 That I used till I was in my 20s. I later found that buck made a 110 with titanium scales (#530 I think) and I bought a few cause they were really thin and light weight. I went on a mule deer/pronghorn hunt in Montana in 1989 and the outfitter had an old buck personal that he used for just about all the game chores. I was impressed and got me one or three. So I flip between a 110 or the personal and have never really felt the need for other knives though I buy several every year.

Now I carry a gerber that is so flat and lite I don’t even know I have it. I buy them for about $15 on amazon as everyone in my family wants one.
For flat and lite I've got a Case Eisenhower

My dad had a Buck Personal that he used and abused. I got it and sent it to Buck and they sent it back looking brand new. I gave it to my son who will enjoy it and use it more than I ever would.

know that I am a knife freak! LOL.... I have 10 (I think it may be more) buck knives. I love the 110 for just about anything in an all round knife. I carried one of them on board ship in the early 70's and still have it. Sharp as a razor. I also have Randall's, Halston, GNR Predator, and other custom knives. The problem with Buck knives is the steel. It is not 440C like some people think, it is 420HC. That is a stainless surgical steel that when tempered properly gives a razor edge and a very durable blade. The drawback is that they require frequent resharpening more often that other steels. Buck is also using 154CM (I don't know if it is CPM154CM or not) and S30V which is a newer steel. The other steels in use by various manufacturers are not really the best steels because they are optimized for mass production and not a durable, tough edge holding blade. I really like the Predator blade for skinning. L6 is not stainless so it has to be cleaned well after use and will develop a patina of its own over time. Use Renaissance wax at the end of the season (again clean the knife and get under the hand guard at the ricasso) of any blood and it will last your lifetime and your kids as well. JMHO in the for what its worth department.

I have a combo skinning set and a 5 inch camp knife. I cannot recommend them highly enough. They may be a little hard to sharpen, but they hold the edge long enough to skin and bone 2 to 4 deer depending on size.
They are very well made
Just one guy's opinion.
check on GNRs knives. Very well made and SHARP

I think Gary said L-6 tool steel so easy to sharpen. he has small skinners up to big Bowies. I read an article on them in one of the gun magazines and bought 2 of his Predators.
not sure what article Jason read but one of the

extremely sharp and easy to sharpen. My knife guy has been making knives for over 40 years and knows his stuff, so I don't second guess him on the hardening process.
I had a sheath made for me by an old Oregon Cowboy

, named Bob Bainter. I needed a knife that would fit it. I spoke with Kim Ralston of Ralston Knives at the HHC. Kim agreed to make me a knife, which he did. He made the grip out of deer horn that would naturally fit my left handed grip. It exceeded my expectations, Top line was perfect and the blade was razor sharp and the work on the handle was beautiful. I'm sure Bob is looking down with a smile. I had no luck posting the picture. I will try again. Just another option.

I received set as a gift several years ago, a folding and 2 fixed blades. Quite happy with them and I have only resharpened the larger fixed blade knife after dressing out a elk and skinning the same.
