What locally available pad would do for lubing cases?

The commercial pads feel almost like pencil eraser material. It's silly to pay $20 for a tin of wax or more for a can of lube when I have so much of the old conventional stuff. It will outlast me.

I'm putting a small kit together to mimic an old Skeeter Skelton article. He made a bug out kit in .357 for loading using an old Lyman 310 Tool. I can't remember if he was favoring that classic 5" M27 or a OM FT Ruger.

Very firm. Cheap.

Good ideas! I want it all to fit in this ammo container.

Anhydrous Lanolin, just use your fingertips every couplafew case, a pound of it goes a long way good for swaging bullets too, refill your own tins.

Lanolin Oil mixed with 99% rubbing alcohol, makes a good spray on.

Lube Pad note: Had an older gentleman told me once, that he bought one of those RCBS lube pads in the 60's or 70's, soaked it good and supposedly still using it, somewhere out there today.

I have a 20 year old RCBS pad, maybe older

that works fine. Every now and then I take a knife and scrape off any residue. It just takes a couple of drops of RCBS lube to do what I need. I still have the original white and green bottle of lube from when I got the pad. I don't have the time nor the patience nor the inclination to run all over town trying to make chicken salad out of chicken shit. Saving $4 isn't that important in the overall scheme of things.

Ditto, I think I got mine in 93. The bottle of lube

I loaded a lot of .38's and .357's in my youth on the Lyman 310 Tool .. full-length sizing the .357's with the Lyman drive-in die ... lubing the cases with a candle.
