Hello All:

A while back I bought a S&W Performance Center Victory 22 lr autoloading pistol.

It is a fun and accurate handgun but I do have a couple of issues.

1. I hate to say it but when I tried some modified " Gary Reeder Flat Top Tool" 22lr ammunition in it there were failures to feed.

2. The picatinny rail is a carbon fiber type. I wished it was real metal.

Any suggestions to resolve some of these issues ? Thank you

Use a washer to "shim" the tool

and thus modify the diameter of the nose flattening and mod the ojive angle. The issue if the feed ramp on that particular design. Drag out your revolver if you want real performance! lol

Look up tandemkross for a good scope or TV mount. Triggers are great,

Offered advice on how to possibly get them to function in this one particular gun that they did not function in. I Don’t see a problem there.

I beg to differ Sir. he said GNR needed to

alter the device and change the design. Well, where I come from if it works there is no reason to change the design. And changing the design or altering the device usually means something is wrong with it. Correct me if I am wrong.

Scotty (Waterboy) is as strong a supporter of GNR and his custom work as there is on this site. He just likes to tinker and find ways to work around problems. His way may not be your way, but that is ok too. He is a good friend and a great guy so maybe we could cut him a little slack.

I agree. It was a solution to adapt to a different feed ramp

Id bet Scotty supports Gary more than most.

You are being corrected! I was offering options to

Alter the results for a problematic gun with a steep feed angle design. The flat point hits the ramp ant tilts down rather that up and into the chamber like RN ammo which the entire gun was designed around.

The “tool” does a great job of uniformity length and size of the flat point. It’s simple and good. I was not maligning the tool at all. Sorry for the confusion. We are all cool.

AMEN Irv, Scotty is losing it in his old age.

I just would like to use that Smith for small game hunting and foraging.

The bane of semi-autos, ammo sensitivity.

Feed it RN ammo and it’s likely 100% reliable. Gary might one day alter his device to utilize a nose altering punch. However whacking on a rim fire is worth some forethought. Paco’s tool was kind of like that. It actually resizes the diameter.

I like the idea of this “fluting” technology changing the hydraulic displacement. Not sure how effective it would be on softer alloy. Once mashed the party is over.

There is no reason to "alter the device". It worked

perfectly on any decent semi auto. The problem is not with the ammo.
As far as the swirly nose bullets everybody is doing these days Charlie Kelsey developed that bullet nose that everyone is copying these days. He sent a box of bullets for Kase and I to test out in 45 Long Colt and 454. It did fine but there wasn't any appreciable difference in a JSP and Charlie's design as far as performance is concerned. Charlie pissed off some folks somewhere and he was found in a ditch outside Atlanta with 2 bullet holes in the back of his head.

Charlie also developed the custom S&W Model 39 he called the ASP with his company called Devel. It had the clear side grip to see how many rounds you had left. Charlie was a good friend and Kase copied his idea with his 1* 1911. Here is Charlie's ASP.

IF YOU PLAN TO SCOPE IT

YOU WILL NEED A CUSTOM RAIL. THE FACTORY VERSION WILL NOT STAY TIGHT WITH A SCOPE ON IT.

the Victory model hasn't been the best seller for S&W

As far as the flat nose, we have run it thru probably 20 different models of 22 rifles and never had even one failure to feed. As WB mentioned it is the angle of the feed ramp that causes the failure to feed not the ammo. Most of our original testing was done with the Ruger 10-22 and never had even one failure to feed. I ran some ammo thru several of my 22 autos and all went fine. That included the Browning Buckmark Bullseye, the High Standard Supermatic, S&W model 41, Colt Ace, Peters Stahl 22, and several others. I think the Victory model wasn't given a lot of thought before it was released. Like John Taffin said we have had problems keeping scopes on the guns. And that is a very small item that should have been taken care of before it left the factory.

besides that is just downright ugly

Do you think that polishing the feed ramp would help?

I hate to say that but for what I paid for out a SW custom shop it should not need any kind of smithing.

Just asking. I kind of like the gun but that is the one issue that bothers me.
