to the last HHC but couldn't find a sucker, uh, I mean someone to test fire in my Marlin. BTW, hit a hog in the head and it kind of evaporates. LOL.

I LOVE my BFR 45-70 in every way. But...

Shoot the 385 grn GT Hollow Point. Very accurate and plenty of power for me. I'll repeat "No Thanks!!!"

I have a box sitting in front of me now.

540 grains at 1550 fps. I also follow the Big Bore Group on facebook and there are lot of wanna be big game hunters that swear that you have to have 500 grain as better than 2000 fps to take elephant, rhino, cape buffalo etc. All BS but I keep my opinion to myself. Vince Gruppo (probably misspelled his name) used Garrett Hammerheads to take the big five. Check out his website. The new owner that bought the business from Randy Garrett is turning out a lot of new ammo as well as the older 44 mag and 45-70 ammo. I hope you are not recoil shy. The 540 +P Hammerheads will set you back on your heels.

its more of a push than a sharp recoil. Still sets you back.

got my 375 H&H Magnum in a CZ550. It was a push alright, waaaaayyyyyyy back.... LOL. The 45-70 with the 540 grain Hammerheads set me waaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyy back too! Of course at 75 I am a feather merchant so it does not take much to push me back. :>)

I killed a cape buffalo with one shot from my Encore pistol. I used a 400 gr Swift A-frame at 2200 fps. I hope to kill another next year with 50 Alaskan Encore pistol with 530gr hard cast at 1800fps.

thank you for the feedback I am not shy

of recoil I like hand cannons. I also thinking 471 GNR would work with Barrel change, And can the cylinder just be reamed or does it have to be a new one.

That is a Gary question. He is the gunsmith not me! LOL

A simple rechamber of the cylinder plus a new barrel should be the main things necessary.

I had an elephant hunt scheduled for early March

but the virus crap cancelled that. I had thought about the new 471 GNR but I wanted to run it in an encore. One of our stretch frame revolvers would probably have been on my hip as a "just in case". But I never got to further the idea. I took my big Cape Buffalo with one shot from my 450 GNR Encore. The load was a Hornady Dangerous Game bullet, a 500 grain soft point running about 1950 fps. I might have been able to get it to 2000 fps or a bit more but 1900 to 1950 was all I could handle and keep control of the gun.But it did fine on that big buffalo.

Good Lord willing I will be going back for a larger Cape Buffalo next April along with 10 good friends. The elephant hunt is not on the table for this hunt but that's OK. This will be my 15th African safari and more than likely my last African hunt so I really couldn't ask for more. But unless things change, I will be hunting with my 450 GNR again and that Hornady 500 grain bullet.

Sounds great I'll send it out
