an interesting article in GUNS magazine that

was probably written well before all this recent crap and is instantly outdated. But a good subject...with all the crap going on right now and police departments being defunded and disbanded, looking ahead with a negative view of what is in store for this country over the next 4 months or more, what 3 guns would you make sure and have at your house. I thought 1 or 2 guns but 3 make more sense.
And this is not an easy choice either. I thought a 12 gauge pump, an AR-15 and a 45 ACP handgun, but what about a good 22 rifle and maybe a good 22 handgun. And what about a hi cap 9mm. So it is a tuff choice, and some of your choices may change what we think, but give me your thoughts.

turn into the other. In the magazine article they show things like compasses, binocs and such and I think the worst thing you could do would be to go out looking for trouble. Now if you live in a big city that will overnight turn into a battlefield, and you don't have wife and kids to worry about then maybe head for the hills, but other than that in most rural situations hunker down and let the bad guys come to you, and make sure and have enough firepower to keep them away from your door. Make sure your wife or adult children know how to run an AR-15 or like rifle. You can't watch 4 sides of your house at one time so having a wife or extra shooter could save a life or several lives.

That's why,

personally I have a hard time not adding a 22

magnum to my list and that is probably my favorite small caliber. And if I had to go out foraging the 22 Mag in either a rifle or handgun would be at hand.

The only good thing about all this rioting and looting crap is it brings reality to us, not just wondering what if. We see on TV each night what is happening to other people and realize that this could be us.

This stuff may never happen to us but in the 4 months before the election we can expect more and more of this. And if Trump wins and I pray he does, then the liberals are going to go ape shit. The things we are seeing now could be much worse by mid November. So just thinking about what we would need to get by is good for us now, rather than not being ready come November.

choices are based on 3 guns to protect my home, forage, or be able to change to dealing with the unexpected. I’ll completely buck the trend and not select a handgun. I would choose a Mossberg combo shotgun so I could hunt small game or waterfowl if needed, use either sabot or rifled slugs if I had the want or need, and use it as a last ditch home defense gun. I’d also select an AR-15 as primarily a high capacity defensive firearm that I could also forage with if necessary. I spent four years of my life armed with an M-16 and didn’t feel burdened by it and I didn’t feel a need to carry a sidearm. If I have folks coming into my house, I’d find spike of 30 round magazines a whole lot more comforting than a handgun with half the capacity. The last firearm would likely be a Marlin 39M....a fine foraging gun, simple to care for, easy to tote, and if I need to get deep in the hills for a period of time I can easily carry enough ammo to put meat in our camp for several months.....while the other guns keep us well defended. I’d be more interested in staying alive than getting in a shootout.... and I certainly wouldn’t be going out looking for a fight. Besides that I have plenty of food canned, in the freezer, dried, or growing on the farm plus plenty of fish in the area to keep us fed for a long long time.

A 12 ga pump,

From a fixed position sniping in the dark you would be a formidable force on an unruly opposition. It could save your life from a much larger force. Make an area not much fun to hang around.

The .22 WMR is said to defeat considerable soft armor in the FMJ form.

I like the idea of a pistol caliber carbine. Some type of 9mm or the like in an autoloader.

The Ruger 9mm autoloaders look nice and I can get them in this disgusting state( Saturday believe it or not there was a BLM gathering in the center of my old home town. The new chief of police actually participated in uniform and was lying on the ground like the other useful idiots. Disgusting in my mind. My old town went to hell. )

Sorry for the tangent.

I like the idea of that and mating it with an SR series Ruger so you have the same magazines.

Another sleeper is the M1 Carbine.

I know it is an odd ball but with an upper picatinny guard that can take a small red dot it would be a nice suburban defense gun.

Interesting you ask. Had I not thrown all mine in the lake

I would have an AK, loaded alongside a 9-shot 870 resting beside the old piano. My daughter would have a G21 and short Stevens 20 double in her room at the back end of the house. We’d be armed always when outside usually with a .38 revolver or hi-cap 9mm.

Roman would have enough to start his own well equipped country, close at itchy hand.

Before the boating mishap we Country fringe deplorables took a dim view of the open threats of rioters to branch out into the countryside. I also have 24/7 access to a good trac-hoe and 24 acres of land on this side of the county. A little over 100 if needed about 12 mile to the north.

It’s not that much land but folks can still get lost and turn up missing.

me consider at lease some alternatives. A good aluminum baseball bat is not bad for those who can't have guns. Get a glove too though. I remember stories of WWI Africa where they waded into crowds with a head knocker and did some business. Another fellow cleaned house with this jawbone of an Ass!

A good 42 oz. Eastwing framing hammer wielded skillfully could kill everyone in the room. All you can do is throw up your hands and get them broken if you do not have a weapon yourself!

An alternative defense system, when my daughter was in a dorm at college.
She couldn’t even have mace,
Oven cleaner was a good alternative for her defense.
If someone got that in the face, they wouldn’t think about nothing but getting to a shower immediately.

They must stay in our vehicle. We can’t have a knife unless it is a razor knife approved by the safety department. I keep one of those at all times as well as a hefty wrench. My job does not require me to have need or use a wrench. But I always have it at hand. And a flashlght even on day shift. And a full charge on my phone. A can of wasp spray will fit nicely on my equipment I operate

This is the stuff I use

I may be wrong but I have been told that if you spray someone in the eyes they must go to the ER. This does not wash out apparently.

I do know that in Mass for a long time you needed a license to carry a firearm for pepper spray or mace. So people carried this stuff.

My choices:

Larry Fry
[subject]
Monday, June 08, 2020, 16:37 (2263 days ago) @ Gary Reeder

1) 12 Gauge winchester mod 1300 home defender
2) .45 ACP I have at various locations a Sig P220, Glock model 22, 1911 5 inch, two micro 45's
3) AR15 in an M4 configuration with a red dot

I know you only asked for three but I have a couple that you might want to consider having available quickly.
4) M1A Scoped on an Archangel stock and another one configured with a Troy Battle Rail system with an EOTECH Holographic .308 sight on it. LOTS of .308 (7.62X51) FMJ ammo
5) My .375 H&H magnum (or other large caliber rifle) with 300 grain solids. (This will go through an engine and stop a vehicle coming at you). I also have my 45-70 with Garrett 540 grain +P ammo handy. This is the guide gun Gary did an action job on so that I could have this option where the ammo would chamber reliably.
6) If due to shoulder problems you can't fire a heavy recoiling rifle have a .378 GNR handy with 300 grain solids available.

And for those wondering, YES I AM PARANOID!

My bad, Glock 21 vice 22

Difficult to decide between a 12g and a 22. But the 12g can be used for self defense or hunting a large variety of game, so I'd take the 12g.
