while back after that bear incident, but I am wondering what ammo most of the Misfits load in their self defense guns. I switched to ball ammo in my MK 4 Colt 1911 and Beretta model 92 after your bear story.

In my .45 acp's I use ball ammo for

the reliability issue. I have a lot of Golden Saber and Speer Gold Dot (around 600 rounds) but have switched back to ball as I was looking at the ramps on my 45's and noticed that they were getting grooves cut by the edges of the hollow points. All ramps polished and all of my 45's feed without any problems now. My Glock 19's use Hornady Law Enforcement Officer ammo, 135 grain HP with a red insert. I am looking to get a shipment of 147 grain tungsten cored ammo in soon. AR15 uses 55 grain FMJ Lake City ammo. M1A's I use either 7.62X51 150 grain Lake City FMJ or commercial 150 grain soft point depending on rifle and purpose. .44 Magnum I use a variety of HP, Soft nose and Hard Cast 300 grain bullets, again depending on the circumstances.

in my revolvers I still use either JSP or hard cast

gas check bullets. But after the little incident with the bear and the JHPs failing miserably I won't use hollow points in my autos ever again. If I knew I was going to be attacked by a skinny naked guy the JHPs would be fine, otherwise no.

by the way, I am not suggesting you use ball

ammo in your guns. That is totally up to what you feel comfy with. If John Taffin were to tell me a certain JHP worked in a 45 semi auto I would most likely switch back, but in the mean time I don't believe any of the expansion tests in Jello, Possum lard or warm moose droppings I see written up.

so, ignoring my posts, what ammo do you Misfits use?

Penetrates well and feeds like FMJ-RN.

Also a big fan of the Flat Nose FMJ. Works like a FN Cast Bullet.

I have FN Cast 230 gr. for my 1911 that work nice ...

I decide on that day has 124gr. HSTs as well. Hydra shocks in my 380s. Hornady Critical defense 9mm 135gr +p in my carbines. I only use revolvers for hinting or target so they don’t apply here.

HST for me also.

vermin to deal with. So in my 1911 I use Federal 230 HST....never had a single problem with them. In my .357 revolver I use 125 grain Remington HTP hollowpoints, 124 grain HST and 115 grain Gold Dots in my Glocks. When I head to the mountains I usually have 240 grain hard cast SWC in my .44 Special.....just in case I have to deal with a black bear.

My G30s carries (10) in the tiny mags, the G21 holds (13) and my HK does (12). It's heavier than the gun itself! Add an extra mag and it will pull your britches down.

As for handloads it's a mixed batch. I was favoring a gas checked "plain base" 200 gr. SWC that ran just over 1000 fps in my normal 1911's. Seemed just fine in moderation and plenty powerful. Super accurate. The gas checks may be a waste.

Speer Lawman 230 FMJ in 45 acp.

in revolvers, mostly a LSWC, except for certain instances where I use a HP design, but I get the slightly heavier ones for better penetration. Those are mostly for specific hunting situations.

Round ball in 45 acp and 9 mm. If I remember

Correctly, Col. Askins liked the penetration of the 9mm round nose. He said in one of his books that he had hoped to find 5 or 6 Nazi soldiers in Germany lined up to do a penetration test but never got the chance. I do like hp in my magnum revolvers and want to do some experimenting with hard cast gc for mid range loads (+p level) in 38 and 44

I use FMJ in my auto loaders accept 22 WRM.

Revolvers get HCGC, JSP or flat or run lead. I do have one load of XTP for my 44 mags.

I am going by what I carried in the Navy
