My wife is new to guns. I took her out a couple weeks ago to try shooting my SP101 with +P .38 cartridges. Unfortunately, her wrists are weak from previous breaks and it was too much for her. She wants a handgun that she can use for self defense. I prefer a revolver since it's a pull trigger and it shoots rather than a pistol which may be difficult for her to work the slide.
The next time I'm going to try her out with a revolver I've got that shoots .30 S&W Longs...
Does anyone have any other ideas??? She wants something that she can use should someone break into our house and she's home alone.
Get the same gun in 327 Federal..

With 32 Magnums loaded, it's a soft shooting gun.
I would get her a revolver in 22 Magnum. No recoil and

the 22 Magnum will do as much tissue damage as a 38 spl.
I second that! Even a .22LR with soft

lead points shaved with one of Gary's .22 tools will work really great! If she practices, a .22 mag to the head will stop them DRT but ONLY if she practices marksmanship day after day after day..........
Agree 22 mag or 327 with 32 hr mags loaded

Can a 22LR revolver like the GP100 be converted to 22WMR?

The Cylinder looks long enough? Just curious
Or a GP100 instead of the SP (.327 or .22).

Try standard pressure 38 Special or target wad-cutters in a K-frame sized revolver.
I would pick a 20 gauge shotgun 1st

I would really sweet talk her into a shotgun. Even a .410 at close range does terrible things.
If not then I like the 22 magnum revolver idea.
Hello John! It's been a long time!

I am glad to see you are still around old friend.
Gary has it right .. get a .22 Magnum. Think back and remember Paco's stories of the .22 Magnum and the situations he encountered.

We've only met a view times but each time was a joy for me... Your dedication to helping everyone you know or meet is so nice to see... My neighbors are related to the people you helped in Africa. They, also, are really wonderful people. Their daughter is such a pleasant young woman. I saw her grow up for a kid following her Dad doing garden work into a 23 year old young woman and she is an inspiration for everyone she meets....
Someone should ask her...

You cant pick another person's gun. Especially one that will be carried daily. If she is serious about it recommend a good gun shop that won't try to do what everyone here is. Just get out the way.
We get all caught up in caliber and terminal ballistics because we are gun nerds... If you introduce a hot piece of metal traveling at "high" velocity into something it's gonna be better than your hands.
It's a personal choice that should be exercised by the individual.
If you want to help, invest in a high quality holster once she makes the decision on her gun. Barranti Leather or Simply Rugged would be where I'd start
Ditto! That works.

I use Gary’s belt slide so much! But my wife needs more gun retention and seldom wears a belt. She has a fanny pack holder for farm use.
Too small a gun is a detriment. Revolvers are tops

I wish they made a 4” light weight with 6+ shots in .327/.32 ACP. Like the old Colt Viper. Most .327’s will shoot .32ACP fine. Forget the dimensional drawings, it is a bit sloppy fit but usually works fine. Just check it in the gun first. Point to the sky to eject and all will be well. The semi-rims are very small and can jump the extractor if you point it down exacerbating effects of gravity.
Almost zero recoil and a 60 gr. JHP at close to 1000 fps. The .327 at near 1500 fps is vicious in muzzle blast! I used .38 full wadcutters as defensive ammo for my wife for years. Very low recoil and you can’t get a bigger impact meplat!
Lots of unique used values in .32 out there. This is a 1920s Colt Picket Positive 2.5”. They made it up to 6”! An assortment of custom ammo, .32 Long wad cutters, .32 ball and JHP, .32 Short (rimmed .32 ACP basically) with 100 gr. cast HP.

22 mag or 380. My wife is proficient with both.
