Most will remember the Remington 700 Classic Series. A very nice gun built back when Remington built top notch guns. It was built in a "Classic" Cartridge every year.

This old Warhorse was my Dad's favorite caliber. The year he died also marked the last year Remington offered the Classic. Whether coincidence or sign, I don't know. But, do know it was offered in 8x57 Mauser.

I asked no questions in buying one. I love the old rounds and this one is the full equal of the 30-06.

I own very few bolt action rifles, but this one made the short list for Africa.

The 6.5s are all the rage stateside these days. The 275 Rigby (aka 7x57 Mauser) is making a good comeback too. I hope one day Americans see the 8mm for the great round it is.

My friend Jim Hardy hunted with one ..

shot his last deer with it on Mingus Mountain in Arizona when he was around 100 years old. He died at 103. There is a photo of him in one of my books. He was born in 1875 and died in 1978. I feel very honored to have been close friends with him.

He loved the 8mm Mauser and used it exclusively.

This is the photo of him I have in the book. He is leading the parade in Cave Creek, Arizona ... on a Lineback Dun sitting in Vadelia saddle he stripped to the tree and rebuilt by himself. In the photo he is 100 years of age and you can see he sits the saddle like the cowboy he was.

We need more men like that today
