a model 48 and what are your thoughts on a new 8 shot 648? Seems like the 6 shot guns are usually "smoother". Thanks!

Have a nice pre-safety M48, very nice guns...

Gary has a couple too. High marks from JT and he's penned some great results from the 648 too.

I have been watching for an 8" model 48 or 648

to scope for small game hunting but haven't found one at a reasonable price. If any of you Misfits happen to have one they are not using and want to sell it or trade it toward a custom gun, let me know. It really doesn't matter about it's condition as I can remedy that.

I have a 6" pre safety M48

over the place this week! Since I already have a Model 27, you guys have me thinking I need a 22 mag for something different...

we have had a truck load of model 28s in here to

convert to our 356 GNR. The model 28 is one of the over looked 357s. But I think folks are finally realizing that they are fine 357 magnums.

I have a 6 shot model 48 in 22 mag with a scope.

Great squirrel gun. I really don't care for the "high capacity" revolvers. The 8, 9, and 10 shot revolvers. Mainly because the chances of a fuggup are greater with them. The locking notch on the cylinder is so close to the one before it that if you cock it fast it can easily spin past the next chamber and stop on the one after that. Plus the ratchet notches are so close together that can cause problems. I have to be honest and say I have seen very few of these problems on the multiple chamber revolvers but I sure believe in Murphy's Law.

If you are thinking of getting a 648 with the 8 shot cylinder, jump on it. Any model 48 or 648 is a good one.

do you think 22 mag out of a revolver is equal to or better than .357 mag out of a revolver? I'm looking at 48's and N Frame 357's. I think Huey has a 48 also. Anyway the 22 mag intrigues me-get tired of sitting at the loading bench!

that's a tuff one. Up close the 22 mag does more

tissue damage than a 9mm or 38 special, but when it comes to the 357 Mag there really is no comparison. The 22 Mag is the favorite of poachers but they normally go for head shots. But for anything deer size and up in a normal hunting situation the 357 Mag is the way to go. Plus in most states a rimfire is not legal for deer.

Sure. I was just talking accuracy not potency. My only

that would depend upon the gun. I have seen some

S&W model 27s set up for silhouette shooting that would put 5 rounds in about 2" iron sighted at 100. I am not that good.

D.B. Wesson took a lot of animals with one of the first 357 Magnums, the pre model 27, at amazing ranges with his revolver. He took some animals that today people think they need a 338 Winchester Magnum rifle for and he did it with his S&W 357 Magnum. Luck, or just a good shot? I don't know but he did it. And the 357 Mag ammo they had back then, 85 or so years ago, was pretty much about where our max loads are these days.

My 27's similar. Long barrel and Magna grips.

I figure Wesson, Keith, McGivern and others kind of knew what they were doing.
