Dakota (don't remember which) where the Dances with Wolves flick was filmed. Both Colleen and Kase shot nice bulls that Kevin Costner missed.
Bison hunting is different from most hunting as they are dumb as a Democrat. Many years ago the hide hunters almost wiped them out shooting several hundred a day just for the hides. They would shoot the herd cow (the head Bison in a herd is usually a cow) and the rest of the herd would mill around trying to get her back up on her feet and the hide hunters would shoot them until their barrels got red hot.
So bison hunting is almost a harvest rather than a real honest to God hunt. I have taken 8 or 9 of them thru the years and all but one with one shot each with one of my handguns. Hunting them in the open plains in Utah is a lot different than hunting them in some heavy Juniper here in Arizona. You come across them in heavy brush where you didn't know they were there and it could get real dicey real quick. Or coming face to face with them in a heavy thick cornfield in Tennessee can be real puckering too. But it is all enjoyable and you bring home a lot of meat.
