My grandmother had a little single shot .410 (2 1/2”) that her father gave her as a girl. When the cat population got out of control in the old barn she would take a bowl Of scraps out there and wait for them to pile in for a bite. Then she would kill as many as she could with one shot. Sometimes she had to finish one or two off with a stick of firewood. She would wait a couple of days and do it again.
As a small boy I watched my great grandmother took care of a couple of small kittens by grabbing their hind legs and knocking their heads on the concrete steps. They had gotten under foot and nearly caused her to fall. She was terribly afraid of breaking a hip. Rightly so.
It hardly bothered me at all I only had to sleep with the light on up until I got married. I’m mostly ok now.
LOL good story
