I get a bit sick and tired of sitting around the house so I took off for the day to the NW part of Massachusetts. I decided to do something a bit odd.

I took a set of gold pans and did some panning on the Cold River which empties into the Deerfield in the town of Charlemont.

I did not find anything but black sand and mica. But it was better than sitting around. I was in a spot that seemed to elude some pop up thunderstorms.

There are some bears in the area. In fact this part of the state has the highest concentration of black bears in the state of Massachusetts.

So my SP 101 and some Underwood ammunition came along for the ride. The trip was nice and I did have some fun seeing what was in the river . The downside is I now have a sore back and have to sit on a heating pad for a while.

I thought of you the other day. My wife is on this "Keifer" kick. Making it from our fresh goat's milk. Basically enriched pourable yogurt. Supposed to cure everything from the cold to cancer. I figured you'd know what it was and like it.

You and her could have some wonderful conversations on unique health giving foods.

Cool. Fermentation is a good start

for gut health.

I eat quite a bit of raw sauerkraut. From what I understand it helps out with overall health.

Well, a fellow prospector!

I'm fortunate to live in Georgia not far from Dahlonega, one of the earlier gold discoveries in the US. Get to pan frequently and really enjoy getting the yellow metal. Georgia gold is very pure. I had a batch tested last week and it came in at 22K. I mostly cheat though. I go to the Crisson Mine north of town and get a couple of tractor scoops in the bed of the pick up, about 1500 lbs and run it through a sluice box and pan out the concentrates at home. Love it though, and you get a bit back at the end. The last picture is over one troy once of "wild" gold.

I was more or less playing around in the streams.

Used to hunt Charlemont before it was over run

by the orange army during deer season. Knew the ladies who owned the Charlemont Inn, even had a family Thanksgiving dinner there years ago. Nice memories!

The Inn appears abandoned now.
