They are not super long range and the critter must be pretty tough. Nilgai or Hog tough. Gary set a benchmark at HHC a while back displaying the limits of the .357 and that particular bullet, to me anyway. It's not a cannon! But a hard cast bullet of good design can do some pretty serious damage.

I made a batch a few years ago for a friend using a 4" S&W 686. Running LilGun the 180 gr. FNGC ran 1350 fps! Shot completely though some nice 200-250# hogs. He was following up some wounded in a bowhunter's camp. Their 9mm and .40 tool box guns with JHPs were completely ineffective unless stuck right in the ear point blank. Sobering to a man thinking they have his butt covered. (BTW he said the 9 had a slight notable edge over the .40 in penetration on them) I like the idea of a FP-FMJ IF the gun feeds it, many just won't. No matter how hard you want them to, if it don't work, it won't.

am I missing something here. Sean is not s howing any hard

What am I seeing, bullets sticking out of cases or strange brass for snake shooting shot?! Boogered some .414 SM cases?!

I thought it was cast bullets, but I think Huey is right.

I didn't mean .414 brass, .357 Max. would be best.

Even using full length .357 Max. hulls the .357 just does not hold that manny pellets. I also found the larger the pellet the smaller the diameter of the pattern for longer distances. A .45 Colt will hold a 18" spread to about 15 yds. I used modded .30-06 cases for .45 Colt but headspaced off the chamber mouth. I didn't have any .460 S&W cases to cut down. The full cylinder length .30-06 worked fine in the SA once formed. NEVER shoot shot cartridges in half or full moon clip DA guns it WILL lock it up instantly.

I think I will try a shotshell load in my 454

Using 460SW brass cut down.

A case loaded with a stiff charge of faster powder, a 1" square of 1/4" thick dacron packed and the shot on top of that. A gas check makes a dandy top wad if you can figure the size and a way to do a hefty roll crimp.

They show the case extended into the throats and..

Lots of stretching above the case web. I'm almost afraid to guess...

Don't you always work up a load.

If those are .357 punch bullets work fine for close in work on medium game. I prefer more barrel and bigger bullet. Those look smallish.

So, what's going on here???

357 Max brass
I run them thru a 30 Herrett die and load with 115 gr of #8
And bullseye powder and seal with a little swap of micro lube on top.
Shoots 1200 FPS, need a little refinement but a good start

The brown looking stuff is microlube, used to seal the case

I used simple card wads in .41 Magnum once

and recoil "unloaded" the shot charges. I simply dripped candle wax over the top though and that made them work.

Simply using (2) gas checks, one for a base wad, and a inverted cap crimped in place for standard length cases works fine. The gas checks are metal frisbes that do damage as well. A lazy but effective approach.

neat looking revolver
