Had plenty of 9mm ammo. But, got two more boxes of the Federal Synthetic Costed stuff with the gun. My favorite bullet design of FMJ combined with a fairly wide flat nose.

Gun functioned well with the ammo. Shooting freehand, I kept a magazine full in 5" at 20 yards. My arms were moving like I was directing traffic. Still, I was satisfied. The exceptional trigger made a huge difference. I have several Glocks with target triggers in them and this one at least as good as them.

After reading Gary's Notes, I figured it was time to add another defense gun. I've never really had any to speak of. Times, they are a changing.

very nice Huey, a great score. I hope mine shoots well too

But, this one has the best sights and trigger for fighting I've seen. I do realize this changes by preference and eyesight.

The trigger is very much less of a reach from the grip. The finger makes it there quickly. A plus considering I am missing half a digit on my trigger finger. The safety comes back to make a smooth trigger feel. Noticed Taurus changed this on the G3 too.

I'll likely buy one of the upgraded target models for small game.

Also, Federal Syntech Ammo...

This stuff works great. I bought the 9mm 150 grn FP stuff. It's rated at 890 fps, but clocked 920+ fps from the Canik.

Basically, a polymer coated lead bullet. It's touted as target ammo for hard impact on steel. IMHO, if it hits hard on steel, then...

Gary has already highlighted where I'm going. The lack of penetration of HP Bullets and harder impact from the FN Bullets. These look like overgrown 22 LR rounds put thru the Reeder FP Tool.

The Foot Pounds of Energy on paper are not flashy. But, several informal tests tell me they'd be great for self defense where one wanted to play serious. A cast FN Bullet with a low friction coating.

a powder coated cast, with a bit of mepat, that still feeds well. I now have gone to a 147 gr. RCBS style at 1000 fps. It's basically a .38+P power but slim and lots more rounds at your disposal. The HP loves it.

Absolutely the same thing. I use SNS Casting Coated...

147 grn FP in my 38 Super Trail Gun. I just don't want to use handloads in a self defense situation. At $13/50 I see no reason to.

I figured you'd shoot it well. I know a kid who

started with a Canik. He then decided his dream gun was a CZ Shadow 2. Bought the Shadow and struggled with it for months. Ran into him this week and he now has a Sig 320 X5 or whatever. He was back to the Canik by the end of the night though...
