Gun Maker Remington Preps for Bankruptcy, Seeks Sale to Navajo Nation
The second chapter 11 filing for Remington could come within days

By and June 26, 2020 11:47 am ET
Firearms manufacturer Remington Arms Co. is preparing to file for chapter 11 protection for the second time since 2018 and is in advanced talks for a potential bankruptcy sale to the Navajo Nation, people familiar with the matter said.

The bankruptcy filing could come within days as the gun maker makes preparations for the Navajo Nation to serve as the lead bidder to purchase Remington’s assets out of chapter 11, these people said. Founded in 1816, Remington’s namesake weapons are mainstays in hunting, shooting sports, law...

They've turned out crap for years...

Used to be one of the premier gun makers too. Can well remember when the Remington 700 was among the most respected rifles a person could buy.

they have nobody to blame except incompetent

management. They had a manager in there who really knew his stuff and actually got the R1 1911 to work and they fired him. They deserve what they get but the buying public doesn't deserve this. And selling to the Navajo Nation is more idiocy. The Navajo Nation is rolling in money due to all their casinos, but they have Las Vegas managers, people that know casinos. I hope I am wrong here but if the Navajo Nation gets them Remington will be even worse off.

Agree on all points...

Freedom group, a holding company. They also own marlin, Bushmaster, DPMS, New England guns, H&R guns, Dakota Arms and one or two I can't think of now. Somehow in the last couple of years Marlin ended up under Remington's banner. Not exactly sure how or why that happened. Also the last I heard from one of our distributors was that the whole kit & kaboodle was up for sale and Taurus was high bidder. I assume that fell thru. I have some feelers out and will pass it along.

bankruptcy doesn't mean they are gone. They can do

a couple of things (if I have my facts right). They can dump most of their non-profitable lines, or sell them off to come up with some ready cash. They could sell marlin (if that sale is clear of any strings), or just dump the line totally, which i hope they don't do. The Marlin lever guns we have been getting are decent guns, no obvious faults of defects. I can't say that about Remington's guns. First their 710 model, total junk and dropped immediately. Then the model 770, about as bad and dumped too. Then the 783. Some good, some not. If they would just get their heads out of their asses and put out the model 700 ADL and BDL as they did for years and forget all those gimmick guns, they could probably get their heads above water. But they need to dump all their "extra" lines, like the horrible handguns. They bought out Para a while back, a company that was making some fine pistols. They then tried to "make it better" and screwed the pooch. So now it is as bad as the original R1 1911, really bad. It is so crazy, there is no telling which way it will turn out. Either way it's a damn shame.

I just bought an 1894 and it's great. No complaints.
