Was so impressed with the Canik Defense Pistol I bought, I asked my LGS to order me the target model.
Very happy with these affordable pistols. If like most newer guns they'll go up in price after they catch on with shooters.
At $430, I find it a lot of gun for the money. They come with lots of accessories too.

I have examined those in the store.

The Turkish imports seem to be an outstanding value at at least half the comparable price. The ergonomics and trigger systems, the accessories seem almost too good to be true. I'm going to have to set aside my foreign bias and look into one for myself. I'd like an optic ready, fast shooting, 9mm. For less than $500 it's incredible.

Turkish imports" which tells me you are already biased against them. You buy an old piece of crap from Romania or some other shithole country and call it historical. It was junk when it was new but is just old junk now, yet you rave about it as historical. Like you said you need to set aside your "foreign bias" about some of the new guns and buy quality guns no matter where they are made.
Doug lived in Turkey 2 years, some really junky stuff

History since the beginning of the earth. They have really boosted the infrastructure in the last decade mainly with the help of western capital. Stevens, CZ, Stoeger, and many others are contracting Them to build guns for them. You don’t have to be a technician or engineer to see quality. The dynamic is changing. Turkey has put out some terrible crap in the past but things are changed.
Did you know Gummy Bears, the top quality Goldsboro brand from NY, are made and produced for them in Turkey? Says so right on the package.
That's an interesting statement.

by my statement. You are biased toward any gun made in Turkey for some odd reason. Just because Doug saw some shitty guns while he was over there? I saw some really fat girls while I was living in Livorno Italy and some really drunk girls while I was in Munich Germany but that doesn't mean they are all like that. There is a brand of double rifles made in Turkey that start at $40,000 and go up from there and they are beautiful guns. There are some guns made here in the states that I don't think should be on the market but that has no bearing on the other guns. Fuggit. Nuff said.

don't mean to bash him but his negative attitude toward new foreign guns drives me nuts. I started to buy one of the foreign guns that GNR has written up in his Gun Notes but then WB bashed it pretty bad so I didn't. Every time I went in my LGS here in middle Tennessee they had a new batch of these guns. I asked Larry, the owner about them. he said they sold like hotcakes and never a gripe. So I finally bought one and it was the best decision I have made in a good while. No comment on what it was as I don't want to start anything on here.

It's just Fords and Chevy's a man's personal preference. I was in total agreement late Turkish guns are fantastic. I USED to be biased, no more. I had some bad problems with a Turkish Benelli semi-auto shotgun copy. No parts available, no service. But they are so much better now.
I love everybody. If folks want to dog pile I'm the perfect victim. Thick skin and unflappable. Send it! You all are my buddies.

Asked me to go shopping with him so he could buy a 9 mm pistol. I told him no way I could give you one of mine. I gave him the CANIK with TWO 18 round magazineS. I think he is in good shape.
They are extremely well made guns..

When I took my first one apart, I was amazed at the fine machine work and fitting. Much more than I expected at the money paid.
I have been pushing the Caniks on my Gun Notes forever

Very well made guns. I had a stuffed shirt young man come in the shop a while back and asked about doing an action job on his Springfield Armory M1A. He asked about our pistols. I showed him a couple and pulled out the Taurus G-3. He looked at it and laid it back down and said he didn't mess with any of that foreign made crap. He was carrying a Springfield Armory XD. I told him to check his XD and tell me where it was made and when he got home to check his M1A and see if it wasn't made in Brazil. He got all huffy and walked out. Nate and I were talking afterwards and wondered who is brain washing these young people into thinking like that, plus being wrong on both counts. I try not to bash the gun magazines but some of them promote real pieces of junk as great firearms. GUNS and American Handgunner magazines are the only 2 I read anymore. The rest I usually give away.
The Caniks, whether made in Turkey or Youbangeeland are great guns Like the Taurus G2C and the G3, both excellent guns. I like U.S. made guns but why turn something down that fits your needs, works perfectly and is priced right? It doesn't make sense.
Now to drift even further down the pike, and I know some will think I work for Taurus or Canik (which I don't) but why not give credit where credit is due. I just try to show guns that the major magazines ignore until they get enough people buying the guns and that there is a lot of demand for them, and that is Taurus and Canik. If it is a junk gun and not anywhere as good as it is said to be I won't promote it, no matter who made it. There are a couple of new U.S. made semi autos and at least one small revolver that are, to me, junk guns, yet the gun magazines rave about them.
So have you tried the Taurus model 856? A new stainless steel, 6 shot 38 special with a snubbie barrel, soft satin stainless finish, very good action (which is unusual for a revolver these days) and priced around $300, with their lifetime warranty. How can you beat that. Parts made at the Taurus plant in Brazil and assembled and finished in their new plant in Bainbridge Georgia. Another winner from Taurus.

Built here. Glock, Springfield XDs, Taurus, CZ, RIA, Uberti, etc all rate higher than some American Companies. But, I'm a gun guy and go for quality over hype.
To me, fine machine work, fitting and finish are like art.
Some of my foreign guns are far better than some of the American guns I've seen. Some at a third the cost to boot.
"Bashed" freaking auto correct...

1. Is it reliable?
2. Do you shoot it well?
Everything else is emotional (and that's ok as long as 1 and 2 aren't completely thrown out the window).
