An experiment even WB might like with the 40 S&W...

Ordered some of these bullets. I like the design for impact and penetration characteristics.

They also aren't bad about engaging in the rifling when seated long. That leads me to my point.

I have an excellent RIA 1911 in 40 S&W and a box full of 10mm Magazines. The only difference I can see between 40 and 10mm Mags is a spacer behind the ammo in the 40 S&W Rounds.

I figure I can long seat these in an abundance of 40 S&W brass I have and come mighty close to 10mm Ballistics. Installing the correct recoil spring first, of course. I'm betting they feed just fine from the 10mm Mags too.

Opinions and experience input welcome. Just don't ask what the point is. I'm not sure there is one except because I can.

Post follow-up please -- problematic feeding

Have done similar experiments before & sometimes you get lucky with feeding but many times NOT! Will be interested to hear how you fare. Please also give us the stats on the bullets (manufacturer, weight, diameter, coating...) plus the terminal ballistics, thanks. Good luck!

Powder will almost certainly be Longshot.

Will check brass powder capacity and bullet seating depth before starting. I'll report everything except charge weight.

The 40 S&W data starts with a disadvantage. Most of it is measured in a 4" barrel. Going to a 5" usually adds 40-50 fps anyways.

Acme is the company the coyote buys all his stuff from to catch the road runner so you know it is good.

Cartridge rim before entering the chamber fully. It’s much like the Mauser bolt gun. Because of this (the TC single shot rimless does this too) it can headspace off the extractor and supported enough to fire. It actually, the 10mm Glock, perfectly! Not that I recommend it.

I tried what you proposed in my AMT Javelina and it won’t feed at all with what I tried. The 1911 platform is finicky in comparison. Maybe with some bullet adjustments. On a dare once to prove it I loaded a .380 ACP in a Glock 17 9mm mag, chambered and fired it perfectly. It did not eject though. Again it was a unique exercise and not generally suggested.

I once made a chamber ring inserted into an Astra 400 in 9mm Largo. It stayed in the chamber allowing correct headspace. But that in no way addressed feeding.

The Astra, that was to allow 9x19mm

For this project. The bullets will be perfect for my 40 S&W or 10mm Trail Guns.

More of a trial to satisfy my survival knowledge than a needed solution.

I'm in the market for a G20 Barrel in 40 S&W for the same reason you've mentioned.

As mentioned ...

But not recommending. You can mix 10 and .40 like longs and LR. Mine runs likity-split. EBay, Lone Wolf, or GB for a tube. Technically that’s listed as a “conversion” barrel.

Other platforms are totally different.

I was thnking the same thing after reading the

Has potential if the barrels are throated long enough to seat the bullets out.

My Glock 31 has a 5.3" extended barrel and gets 1300+ fps with a 147 grain.

extract it. Nate and I were just talking about that. Kase was doing it probably 10 years ago. I think he also had a 10mm Longslide that would do the same. Nate nor I remember whether Kase had to fine tune the longslide extractor to make it work but it worked fine in both the Glock and 1911. And this was with factory 40 cal ammo, not working on the bullet at all.

My son has qualified with G20 and G29

Using 40s&w. Lighter recoil and brass doesn’t fly as far. 10mm was not too common even before the pandemic. He’s in komifornia.
