Have to ask a hypothetical...

I have this ongoing argument with myself about a scenario that opens up before me while in a public place:

A fire fight occurs off to my left between the local police and 2 perps at a distance of about 100 ft. between me and my parked car. They have my full attention, I'm armed, but concealed with a permit. That's all the information you get, sorry.

Do I:

A. Close the distance undetected, find cover, draw my weapon and engage the bad guys?
OR
B. Run the opposite direction, find cover and not interfere?
OR
C. Wax courageous, charge headlong into the fray with gun(s) blazing hoping to later be declared a hero and live out my days in glory?
OR
D. Shit myself, flop over in the fetal position, muttering quietly and incoherently as I fear for my life?

P.S: My first concern in this situation has always been that I do nothing and get shot 17 times by the police, really.

Take cover unless circumstances dictate otherwise.

If the perp lives he sues you, if he dies family sues you. Even if they lose the suit you are out big money for lawyer fees but with the idiots we've seen lately in activist mode you ain't gonna win the suit. Say goidbye to your home, bank account and retirement.

Next, say you pull your weapon, cop sees you and shoots you cause he doesn't know you are not with the perps then you are wounded or dead.

Third, you pull your weapon, perp sees you thinks you are a cop and the perp shoots you and you end up wounded or dead.

I'd say as long as it is a viable option get the heck out of Dodge.

15-20 years ago I would have been tempted

to engage the perps, USMC tactics, BLAH, BLAH, BLAH...

Today, I'm 66, retired, and have zero-to-no trust in local LEOs here in SW FL. A church friend is a LT. field night shift supervisor. Before COVID I asked him the same situational scenario, his answer: swiftly leave the way you came and find shelter in a open business, if possible. You were not there.

Shame, but this NOT the Old West, literally, DO NOT get involved.

Retreat if you can. Find cover if you can't. The police

almost certainly have backup on the way. If you retreat, be aware of more police approaching the scene.

Minimize public exposure, things become simplified.
