Hey Scotty, question on the Millett scope rings

Oh Man, I scored a set of the Millett scope rings with the open sights on top. But, the rear ring doesn't have the nipple for the Leopold dual dovetail mount. The front ring does. The rear ring looks like it has grooves on the bottom and a hole for mounting directly onto a scope base? It didn't have any mounting screws. What guidance can you give me? Thanks!

I can help. I have spare parts.

I mixed ring tips and bottoms to “make” dual dovetail ring sets. They never produced them.

I need to know if your front ring is a low, med, or tall. I can send you a rear dovetail ring bottom.

A picture is worth 1000 words here. I’ll send it to you.

I'm sure I have screws too if WB doesn't have any..

You will need a dual dovetail base, Leupold or Burris

Is your best bet. The dovetails will turn right in. Super secure.

One of us is seriously mixed up...

If we're discussing the rings Greg posted pictures of, dual dovetail base is not going to work.

Maybe I'm off track, but those will require a windage adjustable base.

I wondered about that but decided to keep my

mouth shut on it. They have 2 ways to go, a dual dovetail base and rings which will not work with the rings shown or the standard dovetail front and windage screws in the rear which is what the rings he has will work with.

I even posted a visual aid. Was sorta pushed out, so...

Sorry it is confusing. They never made a

DDT ring set like that so you have to make one. I bought like (20) Sets of pinch rear, DT front rings to "make" (10) sets of DDT rings. It was only $50 for all of them! About what the swinging dick down the street wanted for ONE set of Leupolds, and I now had ten. And a box of useless pinch rear ring bottoms.

So Scotty, to be clear

if I have the Leupold dual dovetail mount, then the front ring will fit as-built, and the rear ring will fit once the bottom is replaced from the pinch type to a dovetail, correct?

Yes, correct.

That’s why I asked I about the ring height. It is dictated only by the bottom ring half. They have to match.

Thanks Scotty. I'll email you. And thanks to

He needs a dovetail bottom part of the ring.

I have one to get to him so he will indeed have a matching set of medium dovetail rings.

You use a Leupold or Burris DDT base.

The "picture" is as you are thinking. Not a good match for a hard kicking handgun, that pinch rear ring. It's OK on a rifle though.

Wow! Thx! The package shows Med

Yeah that will do. That ring is a pinch type

Compatible with Leopold, Redfield, Burris type rear pinch mounting. Never really understood that except it allows for bunches of wind age adjustments. I’ll send you a dovetail ring bottom, you put your top in it and you have your custom set!

I have them on my .416 Rigby, and a couple choice mega bore Encore GNR handguns. They have no other provisions for irons so this worked well for my needs. Plus it’s fun doing something unique.

Where did you find that ring set? Thats neat!
