I'd pick my old 1950's single six. I have a scope on it (now) and under sight irons. An old Bushnell Phantom rig. It's good out to a fair distance.

My S&W Kit gun M63 would be a close second.

*Yes, those are real Sambar stags, worth more than the gun.

Finely done in a superb factory looking manner. If I remember right it’s 1957 vintage. The biggest tell besides the wonderful blue is the blues hammer. Factory would surely polish the sides.

great name for a band... "Blues Hammer" lol

and a Ruger Single 6 ten shot. I like both but would be hard pressed to pick one over the other. The Semi auto puts 11 bullets down range and then requires a 10 shot reload. The single 10 puts 10 rounds down range and then requires a 10 shot reload. The advantage of the semi over the revolver in reload time is obvious; however, if that is not an issue I am more accurate with the revolver in single action and so would pick the Ruger revolver. If it is an issue then I would have to go with the S&W. If necessary, carry both..... ;>)

Easy ...

Single Action Revolver ... namely a Ruger Single Six. They will fire most any ammo ... mine fires both Magnum and regular Long Rifle from the same cylinder, having one chamber reamed to 22 Magnum.

They can be kept running with most parts missing if you have a few rubber bands.

I remember my Dad shooting pigeon off the roof of our house when I was a kid. We had it for supper. He used an old single action .22 with a rubber band for a hammer spring, lined the cylinder up by hand, and slipped the hammer because it had no trigger.

When things start breaking down you want the simplest that is available.

Gary and Jim Taylor are both right; Single-SiX

situation they might get me killed. The same goes for my S&W model 17 and 617. Too many crucial small parts to go wrong maybe not be replaceable. Go with a single action revolver like the Ruger Single Six. I would also stay away from the Single 7, Single 8, single 9 etc. Too many real small parts inside that could go South on you. The more rounds in the cylinder, the smaller tha parts have to be to work that action. The Single Six parts are beefier and will last a lifetime. Also stay away from the Bearcats, same reasoning. Super small parts that are fragile. Let me think, did I piss off everybody.

Probably the Ruger Wrangler here

While annoying to field strip, it not a problem. I shoot them well. Never had them jam up, but I haven't used any really crappy ammo either.

I have a Ruger Hunter 22/22 mag
