estate sale?

I have a ton of stuff that has accumulated for 100+ years. I really want to get rid of a great percentage of it.

In my current situation I am living alone ( although I do have some good friends that are like family) and plan to make a big change in the near future.

Just curious as to what your experiences are. Thanks

what estate services are available in your area...it can be done with a simple auction followed up with yard/garage sales or pay for the folks who come to you and charge for getting it all organized and making a plan for success.

Bottom-line, do most of the work yourself and save $$, or pay someone. With COVID, don't know about donations, the yard/ garage sale angle, etc. Our family put one on with an auctioneer.

My experience

10 years ago my folks went into assisted living and I had to clean out and sell the house. They'd been in a 1000 sq. ft. ranch for 50 years, I filled a 15yd. dumpster with stuff.
Gave some stuff away to family and friends, should have given more.
Fortunately the house sold quickly for asking price, this was the most important thing.
Contents of the house went to auction house, we only got pennies on the dollar, about $1100 for nice furniture, tools, etc. Bugged me a little at the time, but this was minor compared to getting the house sold. I'll give you a hand too if you ever need it John.

An auction house gets around 15% of all sales.

I personally don’t like them. Vultures scarfing on folks misfortune, death or divorces. The “auctions” that is. Gary brokering Estates is a totally different manner.

But it’s folks trying to scam stuff for resale and the auction house getting their big cut. Don’t let my wife sell my hardcover books for 25 cents a piece. Some of those Keith’s are autographed! Taffin’s too!
