ON the Hawes Firearm dates. It seems after the demise of Great Western in 1964 and the moving on of the Hy Hunter importing that Hawes Firearms in CA ran from 1967 - 1980 when the corporation officially dissolved. I was a bit surprised at the late date. I was in the 11th grade in high school in 1980.

Also after researcing some German import proofs I believe that my Hawes "Western Sixshooter" (it's not a later Western Marshall) likely was produced or exported in 1967. Only 53 yrs. ago, about 15-20 shy of my first impression. But I learned some things too. Word was that they were sued several times by folks too ignorant to use the hammer safety notch and generally had difficulties with mismanagement.
