I have continued to work (play)with this rifle. I have been shooting 250 and 225 grain jacked bullets with it as well as some I cast with an old Lee mold producing a bullet that weighs about 250 grains. It is accurate enough that I put a small 1x-4x scope on it to take full advantage of the accuracy. With the scope I can keep them on a 6 inch steel plate at 200 yards. 100 yard groups are running under 2 inches. I wasn't doing so well with iron sights. 77 year old eyes may have something to do with that. I love lever guns and shooting this one is the most fun I have had with a rifle in a while.

.450Marlin! Not so much fun....

Glad you are liking your .375. I haven’t found a load yet that I like shooting in my .450. That rifle is just pure wicked! Haven’t tried any loaded down cast bullets yet, going to have to try some out. I do enjoy the whining at the indoor range where I have been shooting it though! A real ear popper!

I could never comprehend the 450 Marlin...

Except for those who don't handload. Not handloading is another thing I don't understand.

To say the 45-70 is established would be a slight understatement.

But, it's a big world and no doubt a great gun. Any lower powered 45-70 data should work fine in that brass.

I had a .450 in a 1895 that are ok, slick feeding for sure

It’s for when you have some older guns around like trapdoors you done care to get ammo mixed and blow them in half. It’s dying a slow death though, the idea didn’t gel completely. It’s way better than the .444 which is a pisser to load for with anything more than 265 grs.

For half the money I can build up an AR platform in .450 Bushmaster, .458 SOCOM, or .50 BW. Ugly but they work.

The .450 Marlin does have considerably less capacity than a normal .45-70 so pressures will be a bit higher load for load. And it’s about tapped with anything over a 405 gr.

ear popping

I really take great enjoyment at the indoor range when I get surrounded by ARs and real loud talkers, I break out one of my 15" JP braked encores, 1st round it gets quiet 2nd round they come to see what it is 3rd round stays real quiet after the room empties

The 45/70 is in the back of the safe. I find the 444

efficient. Now a .41 GNR magnum would be cool.

IMHO, the 41GNR#2 should illegal, a real killer with 240gr.

MBW over 30grs. of 4227. Accounted for 10 head of various African game, full penetration, incl. a large Gemsbok bull, Blue Wildebeest bull, and a Zebra stallion from a 16.25" carbine, includes a 2" brake. Kills way out of proportion to it's size.

In 2003 & 2004 I took a Marlin 45-70 with 300gr. Noslers. In 2017 the 41GNR#2, no comparison, the 41 is all I need.
