Reading some reporting on the new 27 Nosler I skimmed the article to see if there was anything earth shattering. Spoiler alert, not much.
It was clear from the get go the author liked the round and the gun. He could have gotten it at a big discount, or maybe even free for the endorsement. Or perhaps he actually paid $3200 for it and put a $1500 scope on it, that kind of makes a man like it too. He's committed.
It's a nice round, I'm all for tinkering and new things to play with. I figure 300-400 fps faster than your Grand Pappy's M70 in Jacks (?) round. That puts it up there with the 7mm, 300 Mag. Not much new or earth shattering there. He did report less recoil. That was my biggest take, flat trajectory with just a less recoil than a .300 Magnum. The latter was described as "abusive", as to recoil. The 7mm Mag was not mentioned, which is what came to my mind. I don't see much difference from the old 1963 stand-by. Wasn't that the 7mm Mag's claim to fame, flat shooting and .300 Mag class power with less recoil?
But that does not sell rifles, the company has to keep pushing things to sell product. Every once in a while innovation is truly discovered. Until then, surely there is nothing wrong with constant refinement. The case sure looks efficient, big, smooth, and rakish. The rifle is very accurate and ergonomically designed, it looks robust and well put together too. They make a 28 Nosler so I figure it is mainly catering to someone wanting more poop than a .270 but likes the idea of less recoil than a thundering .300. I'm all for free marketing and capitalistic pursuits, go for it Nosler.
