Called this evening and told me one of these became available. Got this call before, but the supplier had made a mistake and it was an 1873. I opted out on that gun.
Supposedly, this is confirmed to be my dream gun of the 1892 20" Carbine. Guess I'll know in a few days when it arrives.
Many don't care for the tang safety. Personally, I like it just fine.
All I can find about these guns is praise. I've dealt with the Winchester/Miroku 1895s, 1885s, etc and quality is top notch. Praying this one will be too.
The Aborigines of New Guinea know how I feel about the old hyphenated cartridges. Hoping this goes well and any input or shared experience welcomed.
Tang safety is pretty non-obtrusive.

The quality of the gun goes a long way to overlook the tradition. They are great guns. I had a 1886 in .45-90. It was nice but was hefty and I soon grew bored. It would also shoot .45-70 too, like . .22 Long in a LR chamber. The 92 is just about perfect.
Enjoy my friend!
It's not in hand, yet... Still, I'm optimistic about this...

Looking at the old manuals, Phil Sharpe used some scary hot loads in his. It should easily match 44 Magnum with proper handloads.
My Rossi does not like too hot .45 Colts

I think it's the rear locking bolt flexing a bit. But then a Rossi is a long way from a Jap Browning. Old Cowboy loads run around 1200-1300 fps and that's plenty.
Had one of the 454s and it was great. A friend still...

Hunts with it. On this one I'll cut the pressure in half. Looking at around 30k max.
i had an El Tigre .44-40 (Spanish made Model 92)

when I was a kid. I ran the Keith 250 gr. SWC with heavy loads of 2400 in it. You could reach out with it. The gun held up fine. They were a pretty well made rifle.
Thanks Jim, I've been looking at Lil Gun Powder...

And figure the 44-40 will do about 1700 fps with 30k psi. May try some heavier bullets too. Have to keep the COAL right to feed in the gun.
Time and trial will tell me what the gun likes. Has a steel buttplate too. So, my shoulder may have a say in this.
Biggest problem with high pressure loads

in the leverguns with 44-40 is case separation if headspace is wide .. or as the bolt sets back some from heavy loads. Though most likely you know that.
Always room to learn more. Starline Brass has solved...

Many of those issues for me. Much stronger on the sides, shoulders and necks.
As with any gun, they'll be a learning curve. I just have to go into these projects knowing I'll learn both positive and negative things.
The Winchester and Remington Brass was completely useless to me. I've had loading gates smash the ammo trying to load the guns before. No longer an issue.
Been reading up on these guns. Mostly on Cowboy Action Forums. Seems they have .4285-.429" grooves and chambered to seat .430" bullets. Hope I find the same with this one.
I have a Marlin 44/40 like alot of Marlins

The loading gate is quite stiff. I found an aftermarket one that is pretty snazzy. They also make triggers and what not.
It is Ranger Point Precision. They used to make all kinds of other pistol calibers off the Marlin 1894, like the 10mm but they licensed it out.
A friend has one with a half octagon barrel

I've been wanting the Standard 20" Carbine in 44-40 WCF for some years. Hoping it's the right gun when it arrives.
It's due in Thursday, but shipping is a crap shoot these days.
With all the hype these days over the 277 Fury, 6.5 PRC, etc and I still get my kicks from the old ones.
He put a Marbles "Bullseye" sight on it, I was

actually supposed to shoot it again today, but we didn't have time. It is a 20 inch rifle, but with the previously mentioned options. Handles real quick just maybe could use a little trigger work. I think you'll like it...

pinned on brass front post or the ladder sight that they come with. I like the 20" rifle setup better except for the crescent hotplate. I'd take either at the right price though, they're neat...
