(This is how crazy things get started) I have been overwhelmed with work and personal issues for a good while but I love the diversion of a good Reeder custom gun project. Currently I have struggling with paying off my daughter's first car and the horrible urges to buy British motorcycles. Good firearms are a fantastic investment, always.

Doug and I have dared each other for some time, a .480 Achilles project. Homage to my soul poppa Taylor and his cronies. Sounds easy for a project, basically bore straight through a .45 Colt cylinder and install a .475 barrel. Of course lots more involved, but that's the basics. The mods allow .45 Colt to be used in a pinch or custom FL shotshells. The custom ammo is shortened .45 Colt cases with a special "heel" type .475 bullet. It's more of a "because I can" type exercise but sounds like harmless fun. Jim has the articles on it in his Amazon publications or you might find it on the net. The adventure of ammo is half the fun.

I have fantasizing about a pocket .480. Birdshead frame with a short 3.5" barrel or so. Whatever stock is on the parent chassis so no shortening of the ejector housing or rod required. An almost Sheriff's model but enough ejection to just grab a rim to pluck out the case. I'd like a fiber optic front sight and regulate it to a nice comfortable standard loading. It sounds like fun. If I can only get my money and want together at the same time. It will happen one day.

This is a photo an Italian Colt clone I pulled off the net of a potential type platform for MY .480 project. Envision it as a .480 Achilles! although it is a very nice gun as/is. It only needs hammered with "undaunted by common sense", lol.
