Apparently Winchester has it together, or Miroku...

Gave the New 1892 a good going over with some dummy rounds. The gun accepts a longer COAL than some of the old guns, which is good for me.

The bore groove measured .4285" as close as I could measure. Chamber accepted ammo loaded with .429" and .430" bullets just fine. Ammo with .431" bullets was a no go. Sounds like a well thought out group of specs.

Fit and finish are first rate. As we mentioned yesterday, same as the beautiful Brownings we've seen through the years.

Wood is straight grain Walnut, but wood to metal fit is perfect.

Trigger pull is better than expected and on par with most factory guns.

I much prefer the rebounding hammer and tang safety over the bolt mounted twist safety that's an eyesore. The tang safety is very well low profile and unobstructive.

Think this will be a shooter, more later.

I have been shooting a Model 1873 Short Rifle in .45 Colt for cowboy action shooting, no complaints, Winchester did it right.

This one like the Pre-64 Winchesters...

That's one I'd love to own. Maybe they'll make another run one day.

You better than any of us understand the problems with tolerances on the 44-40 WCF. Something about 147 years just seems to cause confusion.

Was very glad to see this gun chambered and bored to proper modern dimensions.

YES I'VE SEEN .44WCFs AS TIGHT AS

.424" AND AS LARGE AS .434"

The Trainwreck is a tight neck chamber and larger bore..

A chamber that only accepts a .425-.427" and has a bore groove of .429-.431"+. It just won't work well regardless who says it will.

I believe that's why Winchester/Miroku put a barrel groove right in the middle.

It also has very deep rifling. I commonly use Matt's Wadcutter Bullets. They would not chamber in this gun. The bore riding nose would engage the rifle. It works fine in all my other 44s. Certainly not an issue, the deep rifling should help grab the undersized bullets.

I've found 38-40s in the 1873, but not the 1892...

Maybe one day. The 44-40 was nearly impossible, but never can tell...

AND THEN THERE IS THIS ONE!
