Should the slide rails of my 1911 be greased once in a while with a dab of gun grease on a swab?

I am no expert but

I run mine dry.

I shot it enough that the frame and the slide are polished and work just fine dry. I don't want my gun clogged up with dust and dirt.

That's me and my gun.

Good article.

A small amount should be fine. I do that on my carry piece.

if your action feels gritty and rough, spray it down good

with Gun Scrubber, wipe off the excess and with a toothpick put a tiny bit of gun grease on the bottom of the slide in the slide grooves. Work the action back and forth several times and if there is any excess grease visible, wipe it off. Never put any oil of any type on any gun. Oil is the worst thing you can put on a gun. Run them dry if possible or that tiny bit of gun grease but never ever any oil. Oil attracts dust, sand and grit and turns into a grinding compound and ruins a gun.
My 2 main revolvers, a 510 GNR and a 429 GNR have been all over the world with me over several years and I have never cleaned either one. I run a bore snake down the barrel on them every couple of years and if necessary put a tiny bit of gun grease on a toothpick on the ratchet and wipe off any excess. That's it and that's all they need.

And they still work.

And a lot of you have seen my 41 GNR on the G-2. I have had it since 1979 and other than wiping any rain of snow off it with a lightly oiled rag, and wiping the front lens clean, I have never cleaned it and don't see any reason to.And it has taken more critters than i could count.

and probably a few more and all thru that I have never "cleaned" the gun. I have run a dry patch thru it and replaced 3 or 4 blown scopes, but that's about it.

And with all the critters I have taken Kase has probably taken one too with his Encore in 378 GNR. And the gun stays in my safe at my house so I know he hasn't been a clean freak with it. I know I have run a dry swab down the barrel and that's it. And amazingly it still works fine.
