10mm velocities from short to longer barrels

Like most compact cartridges the 10mm does not gain much from longer barrels. If you look at the chart, the 12 to 14 inch barrels produce higher velocity than the 18 inch barrel.

Yes , very common for that to happen with straight wall

LilGun really likes long barrels. The 10mm lacks capacity but the .44-40 in a M92 or other strong rifle would simply blister with a 200 gr.

Are you basing this on heavy bullets burn more propellant in the case due to added resistance? Thanks.
Kind of underwhelming, same as a 1873 Winchester in .44 WCF

Would a slower powder help regain some in longer barrels?

It won’t hold enough of it. AA1680 too slow

I bet, maybe with something like a 135-155 gr. LilGun has more energy than H110/296, AA#9, 2400, for what that would hold. You can’t seat long (Huey and my favored trick) in a semi-auto. Heavier bullets burn powder more efficiently but encroach on capacity within the limited OAL. Then back to what I said about light bullets.
As Sean mentioned on straight wall cases, with limited capacity, you quickly hit the wall with potential performance. No replacement for displacement (capacity volume), it’s either there or it’s not.
