hunt out of a tent?
Twenty years ago I bought a four man Kifaru Tipi. I do wish I bought the six man as if it were four full grown men they better be really good friends.
I have used it a few times in the years I have owned it.
This year I have an urge to do something semi-adventurous. So the plan is to do some hunts out of the Kifaru. I do like the mini stove that goes with it. Takes the curse out of the AM wake up.
I know that as we age "adventure" is more in line with Hilton Inn than a tent but I still like to feel the cold and smell the smoke.
Thats what I enjoy most. I intend to spend 5-6 days

We just returned from an archery deer hunt where we stayed in my Kodiak Flex Bow canvas tent, it rained hard at times especially on our last night. We were toasty and dry. My hunting partner on this hunt was a confirmed stay in a hotel hunter, he summed it up the best, this is how hunting is meant to be. I have packed in a spike camp more than once and 4 season back pack tent and weathered many a storm. For me that is how it needs to be.

Take a look at Cabela’s alaknak tent it’s like a spike tent. I bought one 25 years ago it was only about $450.00. I think they’re twice that now but they’re made out of some kind of realight material the tent itself only weighs 30 pounds where a canvas tent weighs 60lbs. I’ve use mine in the High Uintahs Wilderness lots of times, One man can set them up and we usually cut the center pole up in the mountains. I don’t take the poles that come with the tent I just use poles and small poles that we cut in the forest cause we are hunting in the wilderness area and we have to pack everything in with horses. I’ve stayed in this tent real comfortably when it’s snowed 18 inches outside in one night. They come in size 10 x 10 and 12 x 12 and even bigger I think mine is a 12 x 12 and we Have really enjoyed it.

Cabela makes a nose Alaskan guide tent a geo dome in 4,6 and 8 man
I have used one for decades when camping with family. Good quality at a good price. But sure is fun to get away and hunt alone for a few days
Wow Blake! I like your style! I have wanted to make

that hunt for a while now. I’m not getting any younger so I may have to look into it again. My wife loves the Georgia coast. We have stayed in Tybee a few times in the off season. It’s a long drive from Louisiana though. Great pics!

small tent with "Cabela's" stenciled on the side command $500.00? I mean crap! Is there that big a difference? I used one (8-person two pole) motorcycle camping for 15 years I bought for $69 at J.C. Penny's.
Is there a secret to quality tents I don't know?
yeah, the difference was 25 years ago

The ones at JC Pennys is definitely cheaper but after having the wind rip them in half and having to retrieve one out of the lake and having snow in your lap when it’s 10° outside we decided to go for a higher quality one. I’ve had this one for 25 years and used it every single year several times on hunting trips. Still have it still in good shape and will probably be using it for the next 15 to 20 years. Then I’ll give it to my kids and they can use it after that. It is the difference in buying a Saturday night special and buying a custom built pistol from Gary. When things get tough And your 20 miles from the trail head and you really need it you can depend on it. Using it at least three times a year for the past 25 years I paid $450 for it so it’s cost me about six dollars a trip, Some of the JCPenney ones I bought we actually got to use twice at best. Just my experience on the way we use stuff but other people might have better luck just depends on who you are.
there goes your El Cheapo side again.

Guide tent it is a two man backpacking tent. I mentioned the Guid tent because John was looking for a bigger tent from what I could see. And $500 is for the 8 man guide tent. It is large enough for your entire family and half of your animals and will give you 20 years of service. Well worth it https://www.cabelas.com/shop/en/cabelas-alaskan-guide-model-geodesic-8-person-tent
I've not had a tent in several years

Blake

It will take 2 or 3 points to get on a hunt. They have 2 firearm deer hunts and 2 hog only hunts. You can shoot all the hogs you want. On the deer hunt it two deer ether sex, and all the hogs you want. They have a huge walk in cooler for the game. Hot showers and flush toilet. Potable water. The island is divided into sections so everyone gets their own area to hunt. There is a local marina that will shuttle you over and back with all your gear for $75. I have been 5 times. Always a great hunt, have met some great folks there. It’s wild, got gators, bobcats, rattlesnake, mosquitos, ticks, whitetail, Spanish hogs, wild horses, Fox, raccoons etc. you will remember the hunt forever!
Got some info on that hunt?

Web site. Look for a the quota hunts and find Ossabaw You will have to put in to be drawn for the hunt. It will take 2 to 3 points to get drawn. You can put in for deer and put in for hog only hunts at the same time. This way you can build up 3 for deer and 3 for hogs over 3 years and could then go twice as in one year or two years in a row!
I have always been intrigued by those island hunts

I use a tarp to keep the dew and light rain off my gear. If it gets too rough I pack it up and head home. It is only about 5 miles. I’ll nring a steak and a sweet tater to cook one night. And the rest will be sammiches and such. Hopefully a squirrel will make one meal if I’m lucky. Sometimes tenderloin from a young doe if I still have time left. I just do it to be alone when the weather is cooler during the hunting season. It doesn’t get as cold here as you will get so I can’t offer advise on that. I will say DO IT. We are not getting younger. Make adventures and enjoy yourself. It doesn’t matter how far.
I missed last year but my wife demands I go this year. She says I’m getting cranky.
