Are aftermarket pistol barrels worth it?

I'm thinking of getting a drop-in aftermarket barrel for one of my Glocks. I already shoot lead in the factory Glock barrel and I still have all my fingers. As far as accuracy goes, its not a match-grade accuracy weapon anyway, or a Bullseye gun to begin with. What would I gain with a better barrel? Or should I just keep the factory pipe and spend the $ on ammo?? Appreciate the feedback.

Storm Lake and Wolf Barrels are worth every penny...

Conversion on a Glock 27 fits good. Accurate.

Glocks are astonishingly accurate.

The factory barrels not so much with lead. The polygonal needs a much larger lead bullet to fill the bore and not gas cut. With a couple thou larger bullet its as good as anything.

Aftermarket barrels are about all normal rifling and forgiving with lead. The huge locking area of the mono-block into the slide opening takes the place of multi-locking lugs and a bushing (no swinging link hanging off a pin either). The massive block is pushed up into that locking spot consistently time and time again. The barrel actually just floats.

I installed a inexpensive Wolf barrel that I modified the chamber and lengthened the throat. Actually too much, I could chamber 300 gr. WFNGC bullets with room to spare. But it is fantastically accurate, far beyond what I can hold. I wrestle with sights and that trigger but it has mechanical accuracy in spades.

This is a sighter and (4) shots at 33 yds. The load was a 200 gr. at 1400+ fps and the mount was hitting the slide in recoil, frame flex! That didn't work long. OK for a 9mm but my antics were too much.

I've got a G35 w/ a 6" Lone Wolf Barrel in it...

Extends .65" past the front of the slide. With Longshot Powder the 40 S&W matches published 10mm Auto ballistics. Some will dispute that, but the chronograph doesn't lie.

Also have G20, G21 and G31 with extended Lone Wolf Barrels. Just added a 40 S&W Barrel to convert the G31 357 Sig if needed.

How about going from 10mm to 357 Sig in a G20?

Will a G35 barrel lock up in a G20? The mag follower might be an issue though.

Different size frames. Can put a 357 Sig barrel in the...

G35 with no issues. My G31 357 Sig is amazingly accurate. It's my only firearm chambered in the 357 Sig, but it smokes.

No, the G35 is a smaller chassis.

They don't make .357 Sig barrels for the G20. You could get a 9mm barrel and re-chamber it. The 9mm G20 barrels have been discontinued from what I see. They made them in .38 Super too but the little rims gave feeding problems. Simply using .38 Comp brass would have fixed that. I read of a guy re-chambering to 9X23 Winchester that is hot, hot, hot, too.

Goofing around you can blow your nose off with a chamber that is not fully supported. Barrel and brass selection and care is critical.

Actually, TR, Lone Wolf and Bar-Sto make G20 357 Sig...

Not much charm except in functionality. It has that in spades!

This is a 5.5" barrel with tri-chamber brake. My 10 and 9mm barrels are both 6" plain. I do have stock barrels too.

Have threaded Alpha Wolf's for Glock 20 & 21

Dropped right in with good lockup, tried the 21 barrel in two platforms with same result.

Are good. The “Victory First” on the G48 is amazing for shooting jackrabbits. The G43 is threaded and has a brake (for a longer sight radius). It works well too. Both improved accuracy over the stock Glock barrels. So far reliability has stayed the same, Chambers are not as generous as Glock chambers, but not “tight” either.
If i had to do it again, i would. If i get another Glock, i will most likely replace the barrel. Accuracy is most important to me, makes shooting more fun.
