when I worked at a special school for emotionally and behaviorally troubled youth( some of my friends say it rubbed off on me) on the insulating properties of various fabrics.

Using my old brewers thermometer we measured on a graph heat loss dry and wet for cotton, polar fleece and wool.

Wool turned out to be the winning insulator when wet. It had the slowest decline of temperature when wet.

Wool is king in the winter here in New England.

Also, if you take a fall, you don't turn into a sled!

Was ski patrol on steep peaks for several years -- a wool sweater on top both kept you warm if you got wet plus acted as an anchor-brake if you took an inadvertent fall (we skied so much we went whole seasons without falling)...

Good Point. Last muzzleloader season

We had an ice storm. I was able to scootch down a hill wearing my green woolies.

One caveat is now I need to patch a hole.

George Faerber told me something like

he was in a small plane crash where a fuel drum in the back was spilled. He said something like the reason he didn't burn to death was that he was wearing wool not synthetics.
