when I worked at a special school for emotionally and behaviorally troubled youth( some of my friends say it rubbed off on me) on the insulating properties of various fabrics.

Using my old brewers thermometer we measured on a graph heat loss dry and wet for cotton, polar fleece and wool.

Wool turned out to be the winning insulator when wet. It had the slowest decline of temperature when wet.

Wool is king in the winter here in New England.
