A friend of mine has several military surplus M1 30 cal carbines for sale. They put them together and fixed them up for kids to shoot at his range. They closed the program and he told me to make an offer if I wanted one. Non matching numbers on parts so they would not be high end collectibles. Just wondering what a fair starting offer would be?

They have gotten high lately. I'd love to find one

for $400 or so. Id jump on it. $350 I'd squeal! Ive seen SKS run that much lately. Many more collectable run $600-800 or more! Price is a bit regional and subjective. Just my opinion. Palmetto (they send me 5-6 emails a day!) has Korean war .30 Carbine ammo for less than $400 per 1000.

Royal Tiger Imports still has some

but they are pricey. I'm with WB, I think $400-500 is a fair bid for a parts gun right now. A tangent, but if you don't have to have an original WWII/Korea Carbine I think postwar commercial '60s-'70s guns still run cheaper. I picked up a very good condition Universal Enforcer for under $400. Silly but fun.

I remember the early '90s when SKSs were $100 or below. I'm sure there are guys on here who can tell tales of the pre-GCA days when e.g. an Enfield could be had for around $15...
