Playing With Rifles In My Old Age

I am sure I have posted about this before, but I have been enjoying a Ruger American .22 Magnum rifle. I traded into a brand new one and wasn't sure about it, but it convinced me that it would be a good relationship.

I mounted a 3x to 7X scope on it and wonder of wonders, I CAN SEE THE TARGETS 'WAY OUT THERE!

After using it some I decided the barrel was too long and whacked it back to 16 1/2" which I like much better.

The only thing else that I am in the process of changing is the trigger. While Ruger has made the factory triggers adjustable, I cannot abide the "glock-style" trigger with the so-called "safety" feature. I am in the process of getting a Timney trigger for the rifle.

This little gun is fun and accurate .. at least for me .. and I am hoping to take some coyotes with it.

i'd stock up on some rinfire ammo if I were you.

Did you order the .22 WMR re-loading kit? I'd love to hear about that. I have some .224" 45 gr. cast HPGC I could contribute to the effort too.

Haven't ordered it yet ..

but I am planning on it. Still trying to get things back together after being gone for a month and half.

When the Ruger Americans first came out I was told by my

Contacts, Ken Jorgensen and John French at Ruger that these would be very accurate rifles. They were definitely prophetically correct. I have both the .22 and .22 Magnums and for two of my grandsons as their first dear rifles I gave them .270 Americans. The .22 version cost a lot less, I mean a lot less than the model 77 and shoots just as good or in some cases much better. Excellent product. Now that it appears Ruger will be acquiring Marlin I am looking forward to that.

Oh, dear..

I have at least 10 different 10/22’s in various configurations! I do have 2 Ruger Americans, a ranch and a predator that are excellent shooters. Sighted in the .308 at 100 yards and about then my uncle, on his private range, said “there’s a jackrabbit to the left of the 300 yard stand”; I put my cheap Vortex Diamondback on the top of his ears and slammo no more jack! The .223 shoots just as well! So I guess I have my justification!
