The Jeep Cherokee blew a brake line

Of course I should expect it for a 20 year old vehicle but it happened on a rainy Thursday night and kind of scared the crap out of me.

Soooo. My friend gave me a ride home that night and we chatted. I have Mom's Nissan Rogue and the Jeep Cherokee. He suggested selling both and getting a new or newer small pick up truck.

Hmm. The light bulb kind of came on at that point.

I am a hunter and outdoorsman. Although the Nissan SUV is nice to commute it is not a hunter's vehicle, so to speak. The Cherokee is nice but in a way a small to mid sized pick up would be better.

I don't really want a full sized vehicle because I do not have a business to haul items and tools. Nor do I tow a camper , boat or ATV/snowmobile trailer like some of my other friends do. But as I have said a nice pick up would be ideal. I owned a few in my life and never had a problem. I liked the idea of being able to haul items like a nice deer or some camping equipment in a container. ( Friends keep telling me my tent camping isn't really camping i.e. huge trailer with sat TV)

So I am inclined to look at something along the lines of a GMC Canyon/Chevy Colorado, Nissan Frontier, Maybe the new Ranger.

I would like some opinions if you do not mind? Thanks

Give a serious look to the Toyota 4Runner & Tachoma

Lowly rated. Tranny issues on the redesigned Tacoma. Stay away from anything Dodge, Chrysler and Jeep. Big issues. HD Titan and Armada. Have issues. Mitsubishi, fiat, Mini Cooper, small ford cars are horrible in reliability also. JFYI

Sid, most of that is bullshit. If that were true

nobody would be buying any vehicles. I have 2 of the vehicles you have mentioned and have had them for 25 years and no problems. The Jeeps have the highest resale of about any vehicle on the market. The Armadas have extremely high ratings. Colleen checked all of them before buying hers. You need to quit listening to whomever you are listening to. Your info is like all the "experts" bad mouthing new guns coming out on the market. There is no possible way all the vehicles you mentioned could have all those problems. If they did the company would be out of business.

AMEN TO THAT GARY!!!

my '95 GMC Z71 truck with around 110,000 on it is still doing well. We don't drive it much. It is sort of a "farm truck".

I’m only talking 2019 models. I’ve read 3 different reports ie. consumer reports, j d powers etc. plus some other articles. Just doing my due diligence on a purchase I may make.

I bought Roman a 2007 Nissan Frontier, base model

It has the 2.5L Four and a 5-speed. They make the same with an auto. It now has 230K on it and has been great. The price brand new for the king-cab base right now is $20k. The four full seater is $10k more!

I've had 5-6 Nissan small PU since about 1981 and they have served me well. The larger Nissan has a rear axle seal issue and they do not get good mileage, stay away from them. Chevy has had good reputations but they do not hold up well as our fleet vehicles (C1500). Seats, door handles etc. wear fast. Our Fords (F150) have done a bit better. Dodge has fallen out of the State purchasing system lately. Several of the employees have them though (bigger models).

In New England the biggest enemy of any vehicle

is rust.

People want the pavement black to drive upon in the winter thus the highway departments dump salt and calcium chloride on the roads by the ton.

I am leaning towards the Frontier as they seem to have a great reputation.

Well. My kettle is boiling. Time to fill the cup with tea and I am off as the bucks are now starting the rut.

Thanks

My sister has a Chevy Colorado and really likes it.

Looks brand new. Get the frame treated. And run it through the car wash at least once a week. I run that truck everywhere. Hunting, dirt roads and winter treated roads. That’s my New Hampshire truck . I bought it new and still looks great. Pete

John, spend the time and put your tail in the seats

Of each one of the vehicles you are interested in. This is something you will drive for years to come. You don’t want to find out a month down the line that it has something you hate, or just doesn’t feel comfortable on longer drives. Any new vehicle is wonderful, compared to a ten year old model, just put your rear in the seat, hang on the wheel, look front and back ( everything has a rear camera now) one of the models will feel better, and just give you that good feeling. You don’t want to regret you purchase next year. It’s a major expense, enjoy it.

had a '98 Chevy S10 almost 20 years
