A Molten Day

A couple months ago a friend gave me an old lead shower pan. It's what they used to put in houses before they started making rubber and plastic shower pans... and whatever else they make out of them. Anyhow it was a big old heavy chunk of lead.

I cut it up last week into small pieces and this afternoon I started melting it and making it into ingots. I got about 18 pounds of ingots cast this afternoon and still have maybe 20 or 25 pounds of lead left to melt down.

It is pure lead ... dead soft ... but I have quite a bit of some really hard alloy and it is fairly easy to make an alloy that is about like wheel weights.

Pictures Please

Sounds like an interesting project for those of us without a close by mentor!

If I finish it tomorrow I will take some pictures.

Melted down about 30 pounds of soft pipe lead, mixed in 15 pounds of super hard. It passed the sledge hammer test cast into some 180 grain .358GC bullets. Hope these work as a good hunting load in the .356 GNR.[image][image]

Nice!
