The alternative takes some work.

I take it you do not reload. I have read some nasty things about loading that round. I'm at a bit of a loss as to why it would be tough to load for. Only a two die set would be required, basically a teeny rifle round.

I'd look at buying 500 pcs. of brass and the necessary components. Consider it a scavenger hunt. For not too much over $200 you might be able to compose the components to load your 500 rnds. Brass, dies, bullets, primer$, powder... The next 500 loading would be only about 1/3 as expensive. You already have dies, brass, powder. Welcome to reloading!

The cartridge is "blow back" gun specific. Basically that means to the reloader it cannot be hot rodded and strict factory spec. ballistics and loads adhered to. No drastic changes in bullet weight or style, nor speed. Not experimenting! The bolt and spring is designed to hold the breach closed just long enough for the bullet to get down the bore and drop pressures where it will not blow out the thin part of the case. Sounds like fun to me. I do the same for .351 and .401 Winchester. *Special note: Some of that cartridge's brass may be Berdan primed and not readily reloadable. Look inside with a flashlight and two holes straddling the center is a Berdan primed case, a single central hole is Boxer primed and small pistol or small rifle domestic primers should suffice.

When those guns get to be around $400 I'll spring for one. Surely guys will tire of expensive ammo and their fun will be spent. I'll wait like a patient buzzard.
