I have taken a truckload of BIG animals like Bison, water buffalo, Yak, Watusi bulls and such with my 41 GNR and most with one shot.
Hard to beat a 44 magnum. But

I actually use a 44 special mostly for pigs and hogs. When not carrying one of those it is a 41 magnum. I also own a couple of 45 colts that rarely get shot anymore. I prefer smaller size pigs for the table. The 44 special has had no trouble with any of them though and I killed one last year that pushed 200lbs with it.
Where I live even before the great ammo shortage of 2020, proper hunting loads for anything but 44 magnum we’re not found on the shelf. It is a safe bet that is what will show up if any handgun hunting ammo gets stocked again!

PLACEMENT IS THE NUMBER ONE FACTOR.
for small animals in either 41 Magnum or 44 Magnum, normally

I go with the Silhouette bullets by Sierra or Hornady. But for small critters like hogs and deer I like the Sierra 170 in the 41 Mag and the Sierra 180 in 44 Mag for deer and the 210 grain Sierra in 41 Mag or 240 grain Sierra in 44 Mag for hogs.
I am a champion of the .41 Magnum

Yes I own more 44 Mags but my favorite is the .41 and as others have said shot placement is the main key. I have killed deer and hogs with the .357-44 mag. no problem.
as i listed deer and pig,, just curious--- I am certainty

happy with my .41s and .41 GNRs-and having killed some with with the .410 and .41 GNR plus watching Gary no doubts about them- I wondered about the use of 454 -.480, 475, 500 Linebaugh etc- and up I used a heavy loaded .45 Colt-- just curious yellow. M son had a 10 mm set with a fast fire to hunt so later in the ear I will use it some I hope. Also want to use the .500 on a boar just got to get a good Keith mold for it... it is quiet a cast bullet cal.
thanks for the answers..
