any time soon. I've been nearly bitten by copperheads 3 times and was just fast enough to have reacted in time. All three died of gunshot wounds. The biggest was in Louisiana and it was 5 1/2 feet long fell to a 12 ga. while squirrel hunting. The last one I was cleaning my carport last spring of the leaves that collected and reached my hand down and pulled some leaves from a sunny corner. Zap the freshly uncovered copperhead struck at me while pulling my hand away and I jerked faster. He was only 14" long but the Bearcat on my hip didn't even have to think before it went off in my hand.
We also have Easter rattle snakes, Timber rattlers and pygmy rattlers. I usually step aside for them in the woods but not around the house. I will kill any and all copperheads and water moccasins I see. I've had cotton mouth/water moccasins try to get in a boat with me. They will chase you down. Hell no.
