UNFORGIVEN (1992) was great but might have killed off the genre. We may have to leave it to the Australians. In my opinion both THE PROPOSITION (2005) and THE ASSASSINATION OF JESSE JAMES BY THE COWARD ROBERT FORD (2007) are worthy efforts but might be a little too arty to be everyone's cup of tea.
