Reeder Custom Guns - 22 Hornet twist rate question

Ok, so I see differing twist rates when it comes to the Hornet, some are 1x14, others 1x16 and even some custom jobs for heavier bullets. My question is this.....between 1x14 and 1x16, is there anything to be gained? Bullets limited to 40-55grains here. My initial guess is "no," but the slower (x16) might, by a smidge, run the 40-50 grain bullets better, or am I over-thinking this entirely?

I'm thinking seriously about trying some .22 cal air pellets fired by a pistol primer for nasty little yard-varmints like squirrels, etc. Thoughts?

It's a misconception that it's strictly bullet weight. In fact, it's bullet length.

I've had the 40 grn V-Max tumble from 1-16" guns where a 50 grn that's built stubby would stabilize.

they tumbled so violently it was a hoot. But the short 40-45 gr. shot fine.

40 or 45 grain bullet. For heavier bullets the 12 twist would work.

a 1in16 twist. I shot quite a few factory rounds that I had acquired. None were anything to write home about. I’ve been loading 40gr NoslerBT over 11.2gr of H110 and get 0.5” groups at 100. I have a friend with a rifle length encore barrel with a 1in12 and he’s still trying to find an accurate load. He’s moving up to 55gr bullets so we will see. My greatest problem is mag length. I had to adjust the stop in the mag to allow for >1.80” oal.

Is to turn it into a K-Hornet. Then your main weakness will be expanding primer pockets. It pays to back off on the little booger. The K coasts where the standard is ruining cases. Only problem is feeding issues with a repeater, sliding a straight sided sharp shoulder through that magazine and into the chamber. I’d consider that seriously.

Any single shot application I’d run, not walk, to do the conversion.

solid copper and lead core very well my most accurate is the 35gr Vmax and Nosler 34gr Shots all around .5 at 100

Really zing the pellets. They don’t seem to blow the skirts off either. Those .22 nail set blanks are usually available at Home Depot.
