Got lots of powder, lead and a few 209 caps. Leaves a mighty big hole so I’m figuring this might be my first go to gun! Way back when I read that it did it’s job! Might have to convert it to flintlock so I can preserve precious 209 primers!

I am not familiar with that conversion. Must be an interesting contraption. I found some top hat caps locally, new old stock. A few hundred go a long way! Two of my side hammer ML have the conversion nipples and one inline. Most Percussion guns I have however still use the #11 caps.
I take any FFg powder and grind it a bit using wood utensils to make better powder for my flash pans. You can grind it into dust if you are not careful. It needs some air.

Can be done with whichever powder you are using down the bore, provided you are using real black powder. I use 4F when i have it, but flintlocks will fire without any priming powder ( again, using real black powder).
I tried using Tripple7 as a priming powder for a Tripple7 powder charge, it worked with a very, very long delay.
I’m curious as to what projectile you are using? California lawmakers don’t know lead comes from the ground, and they believe you are shooting condors if you use lead. Therefore, if you are using lead, you are a bad person, and need to move to another state. New Mexico was good a few years ago, as was Arizona. Now i hear good things about Tennessee.

New Mexico fell to the liberals so the lead free crap is coming . Arizona has been heading that way (falling to the liberals), so not far behind. I hope not, and i hope New Mexico turns around.

They were Winchester and in a transparent red 50 rnd. box. They said lead free and were only 32 grs. for the 40 gr. bullet style. Faster too at like 1600 fps? The bullets were made of a tin alloy and very soft. Kind of gooped up my barrel. I aloxed the remainder and they did great. I think they would really tear up a squirrel though, head shots only (sorry Granny, no brains for your scrambled eggs).
It would be quite enterprising for someone to figure a ML lead free alternative other than sabots and homogeneous copper/brass based projectiles.
DFG here says nothin about the home defense.

A group of goons trying to loot the house sees a big, giant lead ball go through the first 5 coming through the door will likely turn tail and run. No lead free laws against that here yet! Oh, not to mention the huge plume of smoke coming out the front door!

And I have seen many inline original designed for caps converted to 209 primers. I had many contraptions envisioned. lol
