I've been enjoying lately. I have shed some pieces I had not enjoyed in a while for good profits and have renewed interest in something else. I've had a fancy for a M1873 of some sort lately, constantly drawn to the .44-40 cal. too. More ample rim than non-traditional .45 Colt that sometimes jumps the extractor. Also I looked at the Savage 1899 and like them. I'm drawn to the straight stocked carbine versions. But they are a bit funky and true enthusiasts pieces. Then there is Marlin, the old ones, often overlooked, but the earlier ones with the thinner forestocks and saddlegun butts are very pleasing to me.

One feature on the VERY expensive Italian copies of late carbines are the front sights made very non-traditional as part of the front barrel band. I LOATHE this feature. I have a Rossi .45 Colt that sports this. The Rossi has just enough slack in it's fixture that it can be spun about 1mm to either side and throw off the sighting, drives me nuts. It's NOT a good idea. Plus you sure are stuck with it too. I'd much rather have it silver soldered to the barrel and some type of blade insert that has some hope of relative easy customization at the owners will.

On a rifle that costs four digits this is much preferred to me.
