Reeder Custom Guns - Scope mounts for interchangeable cylinder guns

Does anyone use a QD mount on their revolvers with interchangeable cylinders so they can switch scopes for them?

The scope on my Bisley Hunter is set for 100 yds. with my pet 270 gr. .41 GNR cast bullet load right at 1450 fps. The Super Redhawk has the 2-1/2x B&L adjusted for .429 GNR and a 310 gr. LEE at 1550 fps for 100 meters. The gold bead front and Express V-notch are set for 240 gr. .44 Magnums and Specials around 1200 fps and 35 yds.

I set the irons for the .41 Mag. Cylinder at closer range than the 4x Leupold for the heavy .41 GNR load.

If I get a .41 Mag Cylinder for the .410 GNR I would shoot it and see where the .41 hit compared to the .410 and hopefully it would be sighted in a an obviously closer range and allow me to use one scope but if not the idea of two scopes with something like Warne QD rings and a compatible base would work

mounts that DO work, the systems get back within an inch or two at 50 yds. That's just me being what I call systematic about it.

The faster, lighter bullets hit lower to POA than the heavier and slower bullets with more barrel residence time and recoil influence. If that were not fun enough taking the scope off makes the gun about a pound lighter (25% ?) and more susceptible to recoil influences.

I tend to agree with JT. But if it makes you feel more warm and fuzzy just keep notes on zero settings. The Factory Ruger rings are pretty good but there are some tricks. I push forward on them as I snug up, torque to the same place using a coin with limited grip. It's almost as good as a torque wrench. Use a penny or nickel to not over tighten. It begins to hurt your fingers before you mash it too much. I've used the Leupold peg and cam types but they look better than they work, it's OK. The old Weaver rings get minute of pig close, usually.

Excellent at retaining zero but they cost almost as much as a decent scope back in the day.

always use the Leupold dual dovetail base and rings. They are by far the best on the market. There is no possible way the rings can come loose barring a full blow up of the entire gun.

base and rings thru the years and I have never had one come loose when done right. I can't say that about the QD rings. I have seen them quick detach on heavy recoiling guns several times thru the years. Twice they hit the shooter right between the eyes leaving a nice little gash.

Shoot once I get the .41 mag cylinder with the 4X scope. On another note what bullet mold would you recommend for the .410 GNR for general purpose use?

and size/gas check my bullets so I buy them from Montana Bullets. I usually order a couple thousand at a time and by the time my check gets to them, they have the bullets ready.

Another cylinder in .41 Mag and just leave a scoped revolver a dedicated .410 GNR and just buy a .41 Mag revolver if I want to shoot .41 Mags? I am guessing a convertible sounds more “neat” than it is actually practical?
